Sun Devil Stadium Tour

Nearly 60 VoS members and guests were treated to a tour of the Sun Devil Stadium remodel project on Thursday, December 10th.  A huge thanks to Kevin Burnett and the project team at the Hunt-Sundt Joint Venture project for accommodating our group and providing us a behind the scenes look at this incredible undertaking. 
In addition to enjoying the fascinating tour, the perfect weather, and a delicious barbecue lunch, members stepped up as always in support of VoS' charitable endeavors and contributed $765 to St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance.  This equated to 5,355 meals that St. Mary's can provide to the Valley's less fortunate.

4 of the VoS members who sat for the local exam on October 24 passed and are now Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals!  Congratulations on this great accomplishment!

Scholarships
VoS Supports Education!
  
  As one of our chapter's key missions, VoS is proud to support the continuing education of its members and also the next generation of construction industry professionals.  We are pleased to announce the following Spring Semester Scholarship recipients:
  • Kristen Hurtado
  • Melissa Kettelkamp
  • Madelyn Taylor
  • Cory Thellman
  • Jolene Walters

In total, VoS has issued $17,000 in the form of 13 scholarships to college students this fiscal year.  This is in addition to $2,300 of support to members in pursuit of their CCIFP certification, and $3,570 in National Conference scholarships.  The board was also pleased to increase it's endowment at NAU by $10,000 this spring.

 

Thank you to all of the VoS members who support fundraising events, like the annual golf tournament, to provide the funds for these scholarship awards!

 
Social Event Kick-Off
Brewery tour & happy hour

Thanks to all who participated in the social committee survey!  Top activity choices were happy hours, hiking and Top Golf.  To kick off what we hope to be a quarterly schedule of fun events, we will be hosting a Brewery Tour and Happy Hour on Thursday, February 11, starting at 4 pm, at the North Mountain Brewing Co. - 522 E. Dunlap Ave, Phoenix.  Watch for full details and registration info soon!
 
TPT Update
"Simplification" delayed...again

  To all who have followed the Arizona Transaction Privilege Tax saga over the past couple of years know, the term "simplification" is as big of a misnomer as can be imagined.  The one positive development promised has been the ability for "one stop" reporting with ADOR.  Not surprisingly, this feature, that was supposed to start with January 2016 returns, has been delayed again.  Read more here  and stay tuned for further developments.
 
Construction Executive of the Year
April 28th at the Montelucia!

  
As announced in December, the 2016 CEoY Dinner and Awards will be held on Thursday, April 28th at the Montelucia Resort.  Save the date for this event, presented by title sponsor Lovitt & Touche. 

Sponsorship and nomination forms will be available soon.  Nominations will be due by Monday, January 25th, to Brian Eto.

2016 Tax Update
Register today for our first lunch meeting of the year.  On Thursday, January 21st, Cord Armstrong & Stephan King will be presenting the recent tax updates that effect the construction industry.
