LOTS OF VOLUNTEER REQUESTS IN THIS BUGLE!

Parents, this time of year is BUSY with tons of activities going on at school! As you will see in this Bugle, we need all the helpers we can get to make our programs happen. Running Club, Salmon feeders, Dance Volunteers, and so much more.

If a parent is awesome enough to chair a program or event, let's DO OUR PART and support them! We're counting on every parent to help in some way!  If you've never volunteered, now is the time to step up!

Try something new, grab your friend and volunteer together. Thanks everyone!
SPELLING BEE CHAMPIONS ANNOUNCED!

The Spelling Bee lasted 11 rounds to determine a champion with three 5th grade boys rounding out the top 3. These boys stayed composed as they encountered words such as 'howitzer' and 'cruller' but Sohil finally took the crown with his winning word, 'chary', from Old English. The 2nd grade level champion was a separate and well fought battle between Gowtham M. and Prachi D. with Prachi finally prevailing after 9 rounds.

All 36 spellers competed with honor and we are proud of each and every one of these courageous and clever students! On behalf of the Spelling Bee Club Team, we would like to THANK the Rockwell PTA, the library and office staff, Rita the custodian, and Ms. Gometz for pronouncing several rounds of the Final Bee. THANK YOU also to parents and volunteers who provided support and encouragement to our team all year. We couldn't have done it without you!

READ ACROSS AMERICA!

Rockwell Celebrates READ ACROSS AMERICA!

This year marks the nineteenth anniversary of Read Across America, a time in which we honor Dr. Seuss and celebrate reading. RAA is sponsored annually by The National Education Association and focuses on motivating children to read. The celebration takes place each year on Dr. Seuss's birthday (Wednesday, March 2nd) when schools, libraries and community centers participate by bringing together kids and books.

Rockwell will be celebrating RAA with a weeklong tribute February 29th to March 4th. You'll see many signs of our celebration around the school... balloons, student art, Green Eggs & Ham lunch option, Kindergarten Pajamas & Books author event, a Cat in the Hat Spirit Day on Friday, and daily drop everything and read breaks.
For more information visit: www.nea.org/readacross.

Let's keep reading a priority - grab your hat and read with the cat!

SALMON VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

HELP OUR 4th GRADE STUDENTS FEED THE FISH!

The salmon have begun to emerge!  If you took a look at the tank last week, you'll have noticed a few fry swimming around.  All salmon fry should be ready to feed in a week or so.

If you are a parent of a 4th grader, please, please consider volunteering as a salmon feeding supervisor.  I need 4 to 8 more volunteers.  Your job will be super easy, there is no tank maintenance required, and I will provide training and handouts.

If I cannot get enough volunteers, your students will miss out on this opportunity to feed the fish.

The fish, the 4th graders, and I greatly appreciate your help.  You can reach me via email ( [email protected] ) or by phone  (425 556 0839 ).

Thank you!
Jeanie Hahn (PTA Salmon-in-the-Classroom Chair)

ANNOUNCING PTA ROLES AND NEEDS FOR 2016/17

Rockwell Parents:

Your help is needed to keep our PTA Board and enriching programs running next year for our students and school community!  This past year, too many of the same people were performing multiple volunteer jobs. Many of our board members chaired events as no one stepped up to chair them.

Let's  all take part in some way next year.

We need some fresh faces next year to help "even the load" and to continue bringing awesome programs and events to our students and school community.  We also encourage more dads to serve on the board or in other positions around the school. Most positions can be shared with a co-chair. Grab a friend, your neighbor, or your significant other and volunteer together!

Think you can't volunteer because you work? Not true! 9 out of our 12 current board members work outside the home and our meetings are in the evenings.

Each and every parent: Please strongly consider how you can help our school by thoroughly reviewing the available openings.

Your kids are the future of our school and so are YOU

APRIL 26TH BOND MEASURE INFO
LWSD seeks funding for more schools & classrooms.

Lake Washington School District is growing rapidly. In fact, it has grown from the sixth largest district to the fourth largest district in the state since last year. The district has grown by over 3200 students in the last five years. That's an average of over 625 students per year for the last five years, which is equivalent to five large elementary schools. Growth is projected to continue, reaching over 30,000 students by 2020-21 and over 32,000 students by 2029-30.

To meet these growing needs for classroom space, the district's board of directors voted on January 25 to place a bond measure on the April 26 ballot. This measure, for $398 million in 20-year bonds, would fund
the most immediate, high priority needs. The total tax rate will be maintained at the 2015 rate.  Read more.

Please come to  Rockwell's General PTA Meeting on Thursday, March 24th at 7pm to hear more about this bond!   We will have a speaker and hold a General membership vote regarding the Rockwell PTA's possible support and/or endorsement of the bond.
To learn more, visit the 2016 Bond Web page.
