Wayland's First Burial Ground

North Cemetery
Route 27 & Old Sudbury Road

The Wayland Historical Commission and the Wayland Historical Society will co-sponsor this year’s annual archaeology event “Wayland’s First Burial Ground-Your CPA Money at Work." Barbara Donohue, a Historical Archaeologist and specialist in preservation of Old Burial Ground, will explain how the Old Burial Ground changed and expanded from its original configuration in the 17th century to its current size and configuration following trends and attitudes towards death and cemeteries, what her research uncovered about the possible location of the 1643 Meeting House, and whether or not the traditional location of the Indian Graves was authenticated during this study. Ms. Donohue will also explain how Wayland citizens can help to preserve this valuable historical resource.

Please join us at the North Cemetery on October 4th. If you need seating for the program, please bring a folding chair. The program will be held rain or shine. If you have any questions, please contact Tonya Largy at 508-358-4646 or [email protected].
