The Jung Society wants to thank you, our members, for helping us enjoy a wonderful Season 7 so far. We are happy to announce that we are making good progress towards achieving our membership goals for this season. Your generous donations and, most importantly, your time and involvement with our society contribute substantially to the success of the Jung Society. We will continue to bring you beneficial and interesting lectures and workshops and hope that you will invite your friends and colleagues to join us .

Meet the Jung Society of Utah Members
Dr. Lance S. Owens is a physician in clinical practice at the University of Utah. Dr. Owens completed his undergraduate studies in History at Georgetown University and Utah State University. He received his doctorate from Columbia University in 1978, and then completed post-doctoral training at UCLA. For the last thirty-five years he has been in clinical practice as a specialist in Emergency and Trauma Medicine. 

Dr. Owens began his study of C.G. Jung with Dr. Stephan A. Hoeller in the 1980s. For several years Dr. Owens taught a semester-long course on "The Life and Work of C.G. Jung" at the University of Utah. He continues to lecture frequently on C.G. Jung, Jungian psychology, and the Gnostic tradition. 

Since release of the Red Book in 2009, Dr. Owens has published five major historical studies focused on Jung, the Red Book, and Jung's Gnostic vision. In 2013, he presented a course at the Jung Institute in Zurich on "Jung and Gnostic Tradition." His article on "C.G. Jung and the Red Book" appears in the Encyclopedia of Psychology and Religion. His lectures and seminars on Jung and the Red Book  have been enjoyed by many thousands of listeners. Many of his published writings and audio lectures are available online.

On October 23, 2015, Dr. Owens presented a lecture on "Jung, Tolkien, and the Hermeneutics of Vision" at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. The lecture can be viewed HERE

In addition to his professional work, in 1980 Dr. Owens led the first American mountaineering expedition to enter the People's Republic of China, climbing Minya Konka in eastern Tibet. In 1986 he led the first American mountaineering expedition to the North Ridge of K2, the world's second highest mountain. Now old and gray, he has long since retired from this type of insane activity.
