Women's Health Practice
Dr. Suzanne Trupin

Thank you for subscribing to the Women's Health Practice monthly newsletter. Please enjoy updates about our office, pertinent health topics, research enrollment opportunities, and discussions focused on women's health and well-being.
November is American Diabetes Month
25.8 million Americans live with diabetes, and many more with prediabetes. Millions of these sufferers do not know that they are diabetic. The symptoms may be easy to overlook. Frequent urination, excessive thirst and hunger, and chronic fatigue and irritability are some of the warning signs that many people find they have adapted to. But if left untreated, diabetes can cause damage throughout the body, including to the skin, eyes, nervous system, heart, stomach, and kidneys.

Observe American Diabetes Month by familiarizing yourself with the symptoms and complications of diabetes at the American Diabetes Association website. Make an appointment with us to discuss any concerns you may have. The only way to diagnose diabetes is through a series of tests. At Women's Health Practice, we offer customized and advanced diabetes testing so that nutritional intervention can be started early.

For those living with diabetes or prediabetes, visit the ADA website for information on making healthy lifestyle changes. Try new recipes, create a fitness plan, learn how to manage symptoms, or explore health insurance options. Visit the Living With Diabetes and Food & Fitness pages for more.

Are You Dense?
Dense breast tissue is one reason mammograms can fail to detect breast cancer. On a mammogram, a tumor and dense breast tissue are often indistinguishable from each other. Yet many women never find out from their doctor that they have dense tissue, or that more effective screening options exist for women with this condition.

Learn more about dense breast tissue, how to be proactive about your breast health, and the Are You Dense campaign at areyoudense.org.

Temporary Visitor Restrictions at Local Hospitals
Carle Foundation Hospital and Presence Covenant Medical Center have announced temporary visitor restrictions in their maternal and pediatric departments. Please read the following announcements for specific information.

From Carle:
With the RSV and flu seasons approaching and the growing concern for enterovirus in Illinois and throughout the state of Illinois, Carle will be instituting additional visitor guidelines in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, NICU and Inpatient Pediatric departments. With your upcoming delivery, please be aware of these changes and plan accordingly for your stay.

For the safety of you and your family, visitor limitation will be as follows:

All visitors must be healthy with no symptoms of cold, flu or other illness.

Five designated 18 and over adult support people and siblings of the baby in the Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, NICU, and Pediatrics inpatient departments.

Visitors will receive armbands once identified by the patient and are not interchangeable.

From Presence:
Pediatric respiratory viruses are circulating in our area.  Hospitals in Illinois are seeing more children than usual with severe respiratory illness.

Which departments are affected? For the safety of our patients, we are limiting visitors to our Maternal Child area (Blessed Beginnings Birthing Center), and our Pediatric unit.

Who is restricted from visiting?

Anyone ill with cold/flu/respiratory symptoms.

Children (under 18), except siblings.
