Thiesen Dueker Group
Fall! If you're thinking like we are, you're wondering how we already moved into fall. The last part of the year is already here, the busiest time, bustling with holidays, parties and winter activities. If the first three quarters of the year went fast, this one is surely going to propel us at a rapid pace right into 2016. Take some time to enjoy life with your family and friends; be sure to take some time for you too, so that stress doesn't take away from the joys of all that is to come in these next three months. Our team at Thiesen Dueker appreciates being a part of your team. Remember to contact us if you have any questions or requests regarding your financial programs.

Seminar Series
On a monthly basis, we have been hosting a seminar in our Fresno office addressing different topics. In July, we discussed how you can plan for healthcare in retirement. In August, Paul Franco, Estate Planning Attorney presented our guests with estate planning strategies. Thursday, October 15 th , we are inviting you to learn more about Social Security and how it can play an important role in your retirement income planning. Thank you to all who have attended one of these valuable TD Seminars. We love providing these evenings to our clients and friends. Each month, we'll email an invitation to the next Seminar. We hope to see you there!

Boomers on the Brink: Issues Affecting Participants as They Approach Retirement

Will you still need me when I'm 64-or is it 65?
Some birthdays are more important than others when it comes to retirement. Here are some milestones to remember.

Age 50
More money can be placed in your retirement plan this year. Put an additional $6,000 into your 401(k) and an extra $1,000 into your Roth or traditional IRA.
Age 59-1/2
There is no longer an early withdrawal penalty for taking money out of your tax-advantaged retirement plan.
Age 62
You can claim Social Security, but your benefits will only be 75% of what you could collect at full retirement
(age 66 for people born between 1943 and 1954).
Age 65
Time to enroll in Medicare, Part A, which covers hospitalization and costs nothing.
Age 70
You qualify for the maximum Social Security benefits-there is no advantage in delaying any longer.
Age 70-1/2
This is when you must start annual required minimum distributions from your 401(k) and IRAs.

Q&A: Common Questions Plan Participants Ask

How do I boost my credit score?
Your FICO score helps determine the amount of money you will be allowed to borrow and the interest rate you likely will pay. These results, which lenders use to qualify loan recipients, attempt to identify which borrowers are likely to repay on time. Having a healthy (high) score could help you lower your payments on a car or house purchase by hundreds or even thousands of dollars over the life of the loan. A low score from late payments on loans and credit cards can result in hurting your ability to qualify for loans in the future.

You can easily improve your FICO score. Spending less on your credit cards and paying off balances each month can improve your score in as little as one payment period. Making these ritual actions can not only strengthen your ability to manage other debts-car loans, mortgages-but also can build your credit history over time.

Tools and Techniques: Resources to Help Guide Your Retirement Plan

Rule of thumb for gauging retirement income
Check your retirement progress by adding up all of your savings and applying a 4% annual portfolio withdrawal rate, equal to $4,000 a year for every $100,000 saved. This is a conservative way to project the annual income that your savings will produce. Should you be saving more?

  • 1 cup pretzels, broken into pieces
  • 1 pound almond bark or white chocolate melts
  • 1 1/2 cups candy corn
  • 20-30 candy eyeballs
  • 1-2 tablespoons of a variety of Halloween sprinkles.

Directions:

1.  Melt almond bark according to package. I slowly melted mine in a sauce pan over a low heat, until smooth and shiny. Make sure to stir frequently to prevent burning.
2. In the meantime, cover a large cookie sheet with wax paper or parchment paper.  Spread broken cookies, pretzels and about 1 cup of the candy corn onto the prepared cookie sheet.
3. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cookie mixture, spreading with spatula to coat evenly.
4. Quickly sprinkle remaining candy corn, candy eyeballs and food sprinkles over the almond bark while it is still wet.  Place cookie tray into refrigerator until set and firm.
