Alamo Colleges - Northeast Lakeview College's Candidacy
for Accreditation Moves Forward
Alamo Colleges - Northeast Lakeview College has made a significant move forward in its journey to become accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.


Alamo Colleges - Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) has achieved a major milestone in its journey toward accreditation.
A visiting team from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) made an onsite candidacy visit to NLC February 23-24. The team was on the campus to verify the information in NLC's application for candidacy for accreditation and to ensure the institution satisfied each of the required standards. 

After reviewing the college's documentation, the onsite visiting team recommended that NLC's application for candidacy status be moved forward. NLC's official designation to candidacy status will occur at the June SACSCOC board meeting once the findings from the onsite team are reviewed.




Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College Breaks Ground for Center To Serve Veterans and Military

Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College (SAC) broke ground on a $7.6 million Victory Center for veterans and military personnel February 24. The event, co-hosted by Texas State Senator José Menéndez, took place on the SAC campus and featured remarks from Senator Menéndez, SAC President Dr. Robert Vela , Alamo Colleges' trustees, military veterans and key college personnel.
 
In July 2015, Senator Menéndez announced that SAC and the Alamo Colleges would receive nearly $9 million in state appropriations to build and enhance student veteran support and training centers at three locations; SAC received the bulk of the funds for its project.
 
The Victory Center will include an innovative Instructional Academy. It will offer career and technical courses leading to a Level 1 certificate, providing students with basic knowledge and skill sets for the industry that will employ them, and fast tracking their educational goals for immediate job placement.
 
"This center represents the commitment San Antonio has for our military families. Our nation's heroes made sacrifices for our freedom. It's incumbent upon us to assist in their next journey as civilians," said Menéndez. "I know this center will enable San Antonio College to better serve veterans while providing them with the resources they so rightfully deserve and have earned."
 
The facility will be an all-encompassing resource center providing services including VA and Hazlewood certification, financial aid, enrollment and registration assistance, job training, targeted academic advising and psychological and emotional support.

This fall Alamo Colleges - Northwest Vista College will offer an associate 
of applied science degree in
pharmacy technology.

Board Approves Two New Programs at Alamo Colleges - Northwest Vista College

This fall, students at Alamo Colleges - Northwest Vista College will have two new programs available to them.
The Alamo Colleges' Board of Trustees approved the new programs at their regular meeting February 23. The programs next must be approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board

The Board approved an associate of applied science (AAS) degree in pharmacy technology, which will complement the Level 1 certificate in pharmacy technology currently offered. The pharmaceutical field is projected to experience 28% job growth over the next ten years, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.

The Board also approved an associate of applied science degree and a Level 1 certificate in customer service/sales operations, a marketable skills achievement award for customer service specialist, and continuing education institutional awards for customer service specialist and customer service/sales operations.
