Bilingual Tree Worker Workshop

Early registration ends midnight May 6th (today)
It is time for the 6th Annual Bilingual Tree Worker Workshop in San Antonio. Come learn from industry leaders such as Eduardo Medina from Davey Tree, Dr. Ron Billings from the Texas A&M Forest Service, Carlos Llanos from Columbia, SA and Patty Charqueno from McCoy Tree Surgery.
Topics include professionalism in arboriculture, professionalism, tree identification, accident prevention and oak wilt. There will be demonstrations of an air spade, chainsaw safety, electrical safety, and tree pruning. We hope to see you there!

Emerald Ash Borer Webinars
Texasinvasives.org in partnership with US Department of Agriculture Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service Plant Protection and Quarantine program, the Texas A&M Forest Service and Texas Invasive Species Institute will be holding two free webinars in May to raise awareness about the emerald ash borer.
On May 12th, webinar participants will receive an introduction to the emerald ash borer problem, including identification, impacts and signs of infestations. This webinar will also present an overview of trapping efforts in Texas, to identify whether an infestation is present. To register for this free webinar, please visit the May 12th registration page.
On May 14th, webinar participants will learn how to prevent the introduction and movement of forest pests like emerald ash borer to Texas. It will also feature a new initiative by the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center to identify and map ash tree (Fraxinus sp.) locations statewide for a future seed collecting and storage for use in research and restoration. Do you perform tree appraisals? The Council of Tree and Landscape Appraisers (CTLA) is actively working on the 10th Edition of the Guide for Plant Appraisal. To ensure the Guide will be useful to arborists, representatives of the Council are soliciting information from arborists who do appraisals. If you appraise trees, take the appraisal survey to provide information on the types of appraisals you do and the methods you use.

Research Needs Assessment Survey
Looking at tree research needs
ISA and TREE Fund have completed a joint research needs assessment project. The main goals of the project were to identify the research needs and interests of the arboriculture community and to help the two organizations proactively support the research needed for the long-term growth of the profession. To accomplish these goals, a survey was sent to a representative sample of ISA members, and more than 2,500 survey responses were tabulated. A final report summarizes the survey’s key findings, implications of the findings for ISA and TREE Fund, and recommendations for actions to take based on these implications.

2015 Texas Tree Climbing Competition
Fort Worth, Texas - June 12-13, 2015
The ISAT Tree Climbing Championship simulates working conditions of arborists in the field. Competitors perform five different events during the preliminary round. Each event tests a competitor's ability to professionally and safely maneuver in a tree while performing work-related tree-care tasks in a timely manner. Qualifiers then move on to the Master's Challenge. The Texas champion will go to the International Tree Climbing Championship in San Antonio in 2016. This exciting event promotes safe work practices and is an excellent venue to demonstrate innovations in equipment while receiving industry recognition.

2015 Texas Tree Conference
Waco, Texas - Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 2015
