Redefining Aging, a conversation series
|
What would you do if you had more time? Click image for more information and to RSVP.
|
Join us for a wine and cheese gathering on April 14, 2016, to explore ways to reframe common misconceptions about a universal experience: growing older. Not a class, not a support group, this gathering will launch a conversation series. While pop culture tends to focus only on the losses that come in this time of life, we will consider the significant opportunities.
Participants will discover new ways to express their values, creativity and spirituality - in a joyful and supportive community. The conversations will be expertly facilitated, yet evolve dynamically according to participant interest.

Happening at the Center: Continuous Clinical Consultation
|
Susan Koehler, P.A.-C. (psychiatry physician assistant)
|
Maintaining a learning and training environment has been a core element of the Center since 1980, when the professional education program was developed for clergy and mental health professionals. The Center is committed to providing educational opportunities for the community and graduate students but it doesn't stop there. The Center maintains a culture of learning for its staff through continuous clinical consultation.
With 25 masters or doctorate level clinicians under one roof there is a synergy of knowledge and
staff function as a professional community, learning from one another.
For example the Center's clinicians explore issues in psychiatry monthly. Recently, Susan Koehler, P.A.-C (psychiatry physician assistant) facilitated an interactive workshop on light therapy techniques to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Susan is part of the Center's in-house psychiatry team who work collaboratively with counselors on treatments that include medication.
In addition to the regular in-house consultations, staff often participate in a series of courses designed for students in the Center's Graduate Psychotherapy Training program (such as the Affirmative GLBTQ Counseling course described in next block). These classes are also open to clinicians from the community.
