Delta Township Provides Clean and Safe Drinking Water
Due to recent media coverage about lead in drinking water, Delta Township would like to provide the following information about the quality water we provide to our customers:

Pre-conditioned water is purchased from the Lansing Board of Water and Light and is distributed through the Delta Township water system to our customers. Delta Township has never used lead pipe(s) in its drinking water system (although homes built before the mid 80's may have lead fittings inside their home). Delta Township has also tested for lead in homes since 1992 as required by State and Federal guidelines. All results have been in full compliance with the regulatory limit, less than 15 parts per billion (ppb).

Since 1998, Delta Township has been issuing a Water Quality Report as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act. This report provides detailed information about the quality of our water, including where our water comes from, laboratory testing results, and other general information. Copies of Water Quality Reports are available on the Delta Township website at  http://bit.ly/DeltaTwpWater or by calling the Utility Department at (517) 323-8570.

Additional information concerning lead in drinking water may be obtained at http://infohouse.p2ric.org/ref/05/04655.htm.

If you would like to have your water tested for lead, you may contact the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) laboratory at (517) 335-8184.

Delta Township Approves Purchase of Grand Woods Park

The Delta Township Board approved the purchase of the Grand Woods Park from the City of Lansing during their February 15 Board meeting. Grand Woods Park has been managed by Delta Township for over 30 years, but recent negotiations allowed the Township to purchase property over a 5-year period.  The City of Lansing must now approve the purchase agreement.

The park consists of 14 acres of amenities including a playground, pavilion, fishing pond, nature trail along the Grand River, softball and volleyball courts, a disc golf course and radio-controlled race car track.

Watch our website and Facebook page for details on the Delta Township official grand opening.

Delta Township Exploring
E-commerce Safe Exchange Location

What is an e-commerce safe exchange location, you might ask?

Its a designated parking location in which two parties can safely exchange goods and payments in a secure location. Typically, these safe zones are located at a police department, designated with signs, and sometimes recorded on surveillance video. The trend of person-to-person e-commerce has increased significantly through the use of such sites as eBay, Craigslist, mom-to-mom sales, or community exchange sites.

An e-commerce exchange location could allow for Delta Township residents and those from other areas a safer, more secure experience when making online connections that result in face-to-face interactions. Additionally, it may increase the number of participants that utilize e-commerce options if they knowingly have a safe place to make transactions.

In February, the Delta Township Board discussed the possibility of facilitating a safe e-commerce location and the general consensus was to move forward with plans to officially take up the issue in March. The proposed location for the Township's safe e-commerce zone would be in front of the Delta Patrol substation north of the Township Administration Building (Administration Road off of Canal).

What's New in Delta
  • The former Days Inn property located at the corner of Saginaw Hwy. and Canal Rd. has been the site for police and fire training over the last couple of weeks. Training will continue through the end of February and into early March. Demolition for the building is expected to begin at the end of March.

  • Repairs to the wood pedestrian bridge on the west side of Creyts Road north of St. Joe were completed on Thursday, February 4. The bridge was damaged in mid-December by an errant vehicle.

Snow Storms and Safe Travels

With the impending snow storm set to hit tomorrow night into Thursday, Delta Township wants our citizens to be safe and prepared.

Winter Travel Tips:
  1. Use caution and common sense when driving in the winter.  Vehicles cannot stop as fast on icy and snowy roads.

  2. Watch for scattered slippery spots, especially on overpasses, bridges and underpasses.

  3. Keep a shovel, warm blankets and bags of sand and/or cat litter in the trunk which can be used in case of emergency.

  4. If your vehicle does become stuck and you are unable to free it, run the engine and heater only for short periods of time and with the window partially rolled down.  Make sure that the exhaust pipe is unobstructed.

  5. Stay in your vehicle in case of emergency.

  6. Keep the gas tank and windshield washer reservoir full.

  7. Make sure wiper blades and snow tires are in good condition.  Clear snow and ice from windows, mirrors, hood, roof, headlights, taillights and trunk.  Use low-beam headlights in snow and fog.

  8. When applying the brakes on either snow or ice, avoid locking the brakes thereby allowing you to maintain steering control of the vehicle while obtaining maximum braking efficiency.  On vehicles equipped with anti-lock brakes, do not pump the brake pedal - instead apply steady pressure.

  9. Motorists who change lanes or merge on icy or snowy roads should proceed with caution.  Watch out for other drivers.

  10. Always wear your safety belt.

  11. If you see a large plume of snow or yellow flashing lights, stay back - it is probably a snowplow clearing the road.

  12. Keep telephone numbers for local tow service and/or roadside assistance in case your vehicle becomes disabled or stuck in the snow.
