 How Does Antonin Scalia's Death Affect Nonprofit Issues?
Early on Saturday, February 13, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed away at the age of 79 from natural causes. He was the longest-serving Supreme Court Justice in history. That same day the debate about the vacant seat began, with politicos, pundits and people everywhere wondering out loud how his death will affect the Supreme Court's rulings.
What, though, does all of this mean for issues affecting nonprofits?
Those issues range from immigrant rights to mapping election districts

Nonprofit 411: Making the Most of Charity Evaluators

Charity evaluation tools are a lightning rod for debate over whether the ratings
fairly assess nonprofits. But as that conversation continues, donors are already
using the tools more frequently as a guide for their contributions.

define the evaluations, or risk losing opportunities for funding to mor
e highly-rated organizations.
As the most visible platform, Charity Navigator plays a significant role in
these decisions - even though its ratings are still a work in progress. Charity Navigator is evolving its system to better capture a blend of finance, governance, and impact ratings, while also evaluating charities below the $1M revenue mark. The movement towards impact ratings will reflect the acknowledgement that charitable work often shows traction well beyond the initial output.
