Winter update from Holy Cross

Welcome to a warm winter update from Holy Cross School in sunny San Pedro, Belize.  I hope you enjoy this selection of brief stories from around the school. It's just a brief snap shop of what's been going on.
We welcome a new Volunteer Coordinator
We're happy to announce that Dora Trejo, who worked with volunteer teams over the last nine months is new volunteer coordinator.

Dora is a graduate of Holy Cross and San Pedro High School. She will keep the [email protected] email address, so keep sending emails as usual.

Lydia Brown, the former Volunteer Coordinator, is stepping back to focus on family. She will continue to send regular newsletters and keep you updated on Facebook
Ms Tasher earns Certificate in School Leadership
Ms Olivia Tasher, Vice Principal of Holy Cross, has successfully completed her Certificate in School Leadership. This qualification better equips her to continue her role as Vice Principal.

Ms Tasher has already used the skills learned to create a special reading and learning room for students, a key need at Holy Cross.

Holy Cross receives chromebooks
Thank you so much to those who responded to our appeal for laptop computers. Special thanks go to All Saint's Episcopal School in Dallas, TX and the Humanitarians for Education and Recreation Outreach (HERO) for donating brand new chrome books.

These have been very successful, allowing students to use computers right in their own classroom. We're excited about the possibilities.

Easter fun
Mr J.C. Cuellar of Tropic Air approached Holy Cross with an interesting challenge - to decorate a 4 foot egg, which will be displayed at the Tropic Air terminal.

Our students in standards 3 - 6 rose to the challenge, creating a beautifully decorated egg.   Tropic Air plan to repeat this next year, but have more schools compete to decorate the best egg.

Holy Cross graduate represents Belize in sailing
Former Holy Cross Student, Blanca Valesquez, recently represented Belize at a racing regatta in Malaysia. She sailed well, despite being one of the youngest sailors at the event. Well done!

The San Pedro Sailing Club has been incredibly supportive of Blanca and many other young sailors, developing their talent and supporting their dreams

Dentists visit Holy Cross
Once again we have been blessed by visiting dentists, who work in our onsite dental clinic providing essential dental care to our students.

Returning dentists have been pleased to see that our students are practicing better dental care, which we all know leads to improved health overall.

If you are, or know, a dentist who may be interested in helping, click here for more information, or email [email protected].
Well, that's it for this month. I hope you enjoyed our stories. Next month I plan to share a couple of success stories in more depth, so keep an eye on your in box.

In the mean time, stay warm and start planning your next holiday in Belize.

Sincerely,

Lydia Brown
