mittelbrunSMCNECA Appoints Tom Mittelbrun

The Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (SMCNECA) announced the appointment of Tom Mittelbrun to the position of chapter executive vice president effective August 1, 2015.

SMCNECA is the voice of the electrical industry in Southeastern Michigan and its members represent nearly $750 million in annual revenue.

Mittelbrun has successfully served as the Benefits Director of the Electrical Workers Joint Board of Trustees (EWJBT) since 1999. The EWJBT oversees benefits management for the signatory electrical contractors represented by SMCNECA and the members, retirees and families of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 58 and Southeastern Michigan Chapter NECA.

"We know that Tom's experience, knowledge of the industry and enthusiasm will be a wonderful addition to our team, " said David Kurtz, President of SMCNECA.  In his new role, Tom will continue the tradition of industry leadership in Southeast Michigan which has long been associated with SMCNECA.

"The organized electrical construction industry in Southeast Michigan is known for a very high level of contractor expertise and workforce productivity across the commercial, industrial, public and residential marketplaces, "  remarked Mittelbrun, "I'm looking forward to expanding our industry and supporting the Southeast Michigan construction market."

Mittelbrun was recently appointed by Governor Rick Snyder to the Certificate of Need Commission for the State of Michigan.  The 11-member commission regulates and balances cost, quality and access to Michigan's health care system.  It also develops, revises and determines approval for Certificate of Need standards.

"Tom will be a key commissioner as this group continues its work of ensuring all Michiganders have access to quality, affordable healthcare," Snyder said in his announcement June 12, 2015.

CAMTEC Upcoming Webinar - Concurrent Delays

Concurrent Delays - The Owner's Newest Defense - July 29

When owners impose liquidated damages at the end of a delayed project, contractors typically respond with allegations of concurrent delay. That is, they argue, some or all of the project delay was actually caused either by the owner or an outside force that forgives liquidated damages. As owners generally do not impose liquidated damages until the end of the project, the contractor's claim of concurrent delay frequently is not submitted until the project is complete. This program examines how concurrent delay is asserted by contractors to defend against owner assessment of liquidated damages.

mentorREADY TO BE A ROLE MODEL?

As the construction industry struggles to fill positions available for field personnel and project management teams, there has never been a better time for YOU to get involved with mentoring our youth.

Winning Futures is an award-winning non-profit organization that makes a difference in the lives of young people. They offer school-based mentoring programs and workshops for middle school and high school students in Southeast Michigan.

Mentors prepare students to have successful careers and personal lives through the development of character values, goal setting and strategic plans. Students find their mentoring experience invaluable.  Mentoring provides students with an opportunity to learn about other professions, and to meet someone outside the classroom who can provide guidance, share personal and professional experiences, and serve as a role model. Winning Futures makes it easy because they provide mentors with a structured setting and topic-based activities to complete with their mentees.

With seven schools across Metro Detroit, there's sure to be a mentoring opportunity near your home or office. Learn more on their website or contact Lindsey Gardner at (586) 698-4077 or [email protected]. Your one-hour can change a student's life!
