camadsIntroducing Employers Advantage: A Self-Funded Group Medical Program, Designed for CAM Members

We are pleased to announce the introduction of a new Small Group Self-Funded Medical Program for members of the Construction Association of Michigan (CAM). This program is for groups of five or more enrolled employee lives, and is medically underwritten at  CAM Administrative Services, Inc. (CAMADS)  Employers Advantage is an outstanding alternative in today's marketplace. This program allows small employers plan design flexibility along with potential cost savings, while maintaining an attractive option for their employees. Employers Advantage features level funding and aggregate only stop loss coverage. Level funding consists of a predetermined portion of the claims along with excess loss insurance premium and administrative costs on a monthly basis. When eligible claims exceed the employer's claims funding, funds are released by the excess loss carrier to the employer's claim fund to reimburse claims.

Employers Advantage features the Cofinity PPO network as the primary network and Private Health Care Systems (PHCS) will serve as the travel/student/out-of-state network. Nationally-recognized pharmacy benefit manager, Catamaran PBM of Illinois, Inc., will provide covered prescription drug services through a large network of participating pharmacies. Additionally, medtipster/Free provides most generic drugs free to members at over 60,000 pharmacies nationwide. The excess loss carrier providing aggregate stop loss coverage is Everest Reinsurance Company, rated A+ (Superior) by A.M. Best Company. CAM Administrative Services, Inc. (CAMADS) will quote, medically underwrite, provide eligibility management and group invoicing, claims adjudication, claims payments and stop loss management for groups utilizing this program.

Please contact your agent to obtain a quote or additional information about this exciting new program. As always, CAMADS is available to assist you by calling their Marketing Department at 248-233-2114 or 248-233-2117.

oshaChanges to the OSHA Illness & Injury

Recordkeeping Standard

On September 11, 2014, federal OSHA announced new requirements for reporting severe injuries and updates for the list of industries exempt from recordkeeping requirements.  These new rules are effective in federal OSHA states on January 1, 2015.

States like Michigan operating their own OSHA program  must promulgate standards which are at least as effective as the federal standards within six months of their publication in the Federal Register.  Michigan intends to adopt the new federal rules by reference.

The new federal OSHA changes will require employers to file a detailed report within eight hours of fatal workplace accidents.

Severe on-the-job injuries that do not result in death but require hospitalization must be reported within 24 hours,  Such reports must be filed regardless of the size of the business.

Currently, the regulations require such reports only if a worker was killed or three or more workers were hospitalized as a result of a workplace accident.  The new 24-hour reporting requirement includes all work-related hospitalizations, amputations or loss of an eye.  All employers, including those partially exempted by reason of company size or industry classification, will be required to comply with the new severe injury and illness reporting requirements.

The new federal regulation maintains the current exemption for any employer with 10 or fewer workers from the requirement to maintain the 300 logs of worker injuries and illnesses.  The new rule also updates the list of employers partially exempt from OSHA recordkeeping requirements. CLICK HERE

The revised recordkeeping rules will require 25 new industries to keep illness and injury records. CLICK HERE.

The federal OSHA website offers several resources for those new to illness and injury recordkeeping. One such tool is a tutorial on how to complete the 300 logs. CLICK HERE.

Watch the MIOSHA website and monthly eNews for updates on progress to adopt these changes in Michigan.

The MIOSHA courses listed below are designed to help employers learn and understand the recordability of work-related injuries and illnesses, to calculate injury and illness rates and learn how to compare these rates to other companies with their North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS), and to ensure that their organization complies with MIOSHA recordkeeping requirements as contained in MIOSHA Administrative Rules Part 11. Recording and Reporting of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses.

broderBroder & Sachse Donates Goods to Habitat for Humanity

Broder & Sachse Real Estate Services, Inc., Birmingham, has donated a variety of home essentials collected from its renovation of the former Detroit Griswold Building, 1214 Griswold, now named "The Albert," to Habitat for Humanity Metro ReStores. The materials included household items such as cabinetry, kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures.

"We are proud to support Habitat for Humanity's mission to eliminate substandard housing, which can pose health and safety risks," said Broder & Sachse President Richard Broder, CPM. "Repurposing household materials eliminates waste from landfills. It also increases the standard of living in the community by offering affordable home-improvement options."

Habitat for Humanity's Metro ReStores of Detroit and Oakland County are retail outlets that sell donated new and used building and home improvement materials. Such items include cabinets, lighting, plumbing fixtures, roofing, doors, lumber, flooring, windows, furniture and appliances. These materials, sold at 30 to 75 percent below retail cost, are available to anyone looking to improve their home. Proceeds from the store are used to build affordable, energy-efficient homes as part of the rehabilitation of urban, residential neighborhoods in the Detroit area.

"We are excited to see the increased revitalization activity across the city," said Charlene McNary, COO, Habitat for Humanity Detroit. "We're even more excited to be a benefactor of this activity through the generous donations of organizations such as Broder & Sache. Donations to the ReStores enable us to serve more families and be a part of the rebuilding of Detroit, one neighborhood at a time."

The former Griswold building, located in Detroit's Capitol Park district, was built in 1929 as an office building and was added to the National Register of Historic Buildings in 1980. The 12-story, 127-unit building was purchased by 1214 Griswold Apartments LLC in early 2013. It has undergone extensive renovations and is now leasing 1- and 2-bedroom residential units.
