CAMASSE2014 CAM / ASSE Safety Leadership & Professional Development Conference - CALL FOR SPEAKERS

The Construction Association of Michigan and the Greater Detroit Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers invites those interested in presenting at its 2014 CAM / ASSE Safety Leadership & Professional Development Conference to submit a proposal for review by the Leadership & PDC Planning Committee.

The Safety Leadership & Professional Development Conference will provide a forum for safety, health and environmental (SH&E) professionals to:

  • Identify key issues facing SH&E professionals today and sustainably into the future;
  • Expand participant's knowledge and professional skill-set;
  • Help participants prepare for challenges encountered in the SH&E field;
  • Engage in dialog and/or discourse concerning our profession; and,
  • Identify current trends and emerging issues relevant to our profession.

Description of Presentation for Evaluation:  Describe your presentation and specify expected learning outcomes for attendees. Indicate an anticipated participant level of competency (beginner, intermediate or advanced) and industry path for your presentation (construction, general industry, or executive-level).

Brochure Description: Provide a 50-word (max) description of the presentation to be included in the conference brochure and website/email announcement(s).

Biographical Data & References: Provide a 150-word (max) description of your professional credentials and why you are the presenter/facilitator for your presentation.  Please include as a minimum:

  • Your name and contact information, including email address;
  • Education, including Alma Mater;
  • Current position;
  • Certifications, designations, qualifications and relevant speaking experience (that addresses your specific qualifications as a presenter); and,
  • Noteworthy articles and publications from the past 3 years.

Length of Presentation: Presentations are 1.25 hours (75min) in length, but must allow proper time for questions following your presentation.  If there is overwhelming demand for your presentation, you may be asked to present the same presentation at more than one session.

Proceedings Paper/PowerPoint Deck: Speakers must submit a paper based on their presentation for the proceedings that will be available to conference attendees via the internet.  If you are using PowerPoint for your presentation, a copy of your slide deck may be submitted in lieu of a paper.

Note on PowerPoint:  PowerPoint slides are a powerful teaching tool, but can also be a significant distraction if slides are too wordy, not pertinent to the presentation, or end up being a verbal crutch for the presenter.  Slides are a complement to your presentation....they should not BE the presentation.  We ask that you submit your PowerPoint slide deck to the Leadership Committee for review and feedback no less than 2-weeks before the Leadership & Professional Development Conference.

Speaker and Proposal Information:

  • Individual speakers (one or two speakers per session) receive a full complimentary conference registration. Travel, lodging and daily expenses are the responsibility of the speaker(s).
  • Speaker proposals will be evaluated objectively by the Leadership Conference & PDC Planning Committee based on the following criteria:
  • Degree to which the proposed session meets the conference/program objectives, as described above;
  • Presentation skills and experience of the speaker; and,
  • Desirability of the topic to the conference attendees
  • All speakers will be notified by e-mail if the proposal has been accepted for the CAM / ASSE Leadership & Professional Development Conference 2014.

The Conference is tentatively scheduled for December 3, 2014.  Speaker submissions need to be submitted to Tracey Alfonsi, CAM Safety Director at [email protected].  Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Speaker proposals are due June 30, 2014.
