Dubbed the "Motown Showdown," this event highlighted IMI's best product: skilled craftworkers. The Construction Association of Michigan (CAM) was a proud sponsor of the event.

Brian Halley, a local, third-generation Local 1 bricklayer apprentice, won 1st place in the second year division.

Regional first place winners from across the country will compete at the MCAA International Masonry Skills Challenge during the World of Concrete / World of Masonry in Las Vegas, NV on January 22, 2014.  For more information, please click here.

"This is a great example of the positive work our organization does. Our training center and programs are 100% membership-funded; basically, we all chip in to train our replacements and to keep the masonry industry supplied with skilled craftworkers," said Tom Ward, training director and apprentice coordinator at IMI Detroit. "Additionally, events such as this highlight career opportunities in our industry, and the timing is perfect since we will be accepting applications for apprenticeships in December."

McCauseyCAM Member McCausey Lumber Changes is Now McCausey Specialty Products

For more than a century, McCausey Lumber Company (Roseville) serviced the contractor trades with an array of building materials. As years passed, the needs of industry changed and competition intensified, so ownership decided to diversify its product mix and focus more towards distributing specialty products for niche market segments.

Today, the company remains family-owned and operated by the fifth generation, distributing unique wood and composite materials to the model/prototype industry, scaffold industry, and other specialized trades. Despite its long heritage as a building products supply yard, McCausey Lumber Company recently changed its name to McCausey Specialty Products, to better reflect the scope of its business.

walbridgeorionWalbridge and Orion Announce Construction Teaming Agreement

Walbridge and Orion recently announced that they have signed a strategic construction teaming agreement calling for the two Michigan-based companies to cooperate on bids and construction for select projects in the West Michigan region.
