James Oleksinski Promoted to CAM Director of Labor Relations and Government Affairs
CAM is pleased to announce the promotion of James (Jim) Oleksinski, M.A., J.D., LL.M, to Director of Labor Relations and Government Affairs. Oleksinski previously held the position of Assistant Director. He replaces outgoing previous Director, Patrick Baker.
Oleksinski is a licensed attorney and certified labor relations and human resources professional with more than sixteen years of labor relations and labor law experience. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, including the Labor and Employment Law Section. Oleksinski earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Detroit, School of Law and a Master of Laws degree with a major in Labor Law from Wayne State University Law School. He also attained certifications in labor relations and human resources from the Michigan State University - School of Labor and Industrial Relations.
Prior to coming to CAM, Oleksinski held the position of Human Resources Director for the City of Madison Heights, where he represented the City in collective bargaining negotiations and grievance meetings. Oleksinski also has over 15 years of experience with the Wayne County Labor Relations Division where he worked with a multitude of trade unions and developed strong professional relationships with the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council. He began his career as a Law Clerk for the Wayne County Corporation Counsel in Detroit.
In his duties as Director of Labor Relations and Government Affairs, Oleksinski will provide guidance to the over 400 contractors participating in CAM's Labor Program. CAM President Kevin Koehler said, "We are very pleased to have Jim as our Director of Labor Relations and Government Affairs. He will undoubtedly continue to expand our leadership in labor relations to the Michigan construction industry."
CAM's Labor Relations services are available to all CAM Member contractors that are signatory to CAM-negotiated Collective Bargaining Agreements and employing Carpenters, Laborers, Operating Engineers and Cement Mason tradesmen in Southeast Michigan.

The 2013 Biennial Business Survey Deadline Extended - September 30
CAM is inviting all Construction Industry Professionals to participate in the 2013 Biennial Business Survey for construction businesses and owners. This survey is conducted every two years through the collaborative efforts of the Construction Association of Michigan (CAM) and Plante Moran.
For more than 20 years, the Biennial Business Survey has provided an extensive overview of the state of Michigan's construction industry. This year, the Survey is available exclusively online. Results will be tabulated via Qualtrics and also distributed online.
Your participation is the key factor in the success of this project. Please complete the survey no later than Monday, September 30, 2013. The information gathered will be an invaluable tool in assessing Michigan's construction climate.

Tee Up at Plum Hollow on September 23
CAM's final golf outing of the year will take place on Monday, September 23, at Plum Hollow Country Club in Southfield. All CAM members are invited to join us for a fun-filled day honoring the industry "Old Timers" - those who are at least 65 years young and have worked in the construction industry for 30+ years.
Cost for this outing is $135 per regular golfer and $75 for Old Timers. Package includes:

2013 MISS DIG Damage Prevention Summit - October 10
CAM Members are encouraged to attend the first MISS DIG Damage Prevention Summit, on Thursday, October 10 from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Park Place Hotel in Traverse City.
The purpose of this event is to bring stakeholders together to discuss current methods used to educate, train, and publicize safe digging; as well as to formulate new ideas to advance damage prevention in Michigan.
This summit will be especially beneficial to those who work for a utility company, municipality, locating service, excavator, or any other field where utility damage prevention plays an important role.
The MISS DIG 2013 Annual Membership Meeting will be held the following morning after the Damage Prevention Summit on Friday, October 11.

Register NOW for Fall CAMTEC Classes - Online Registration Available
CAMTEC, the Training & Education Center of CAM, offers a wide variety of classes, seminars and presentations on all aspects of construction. All sessions are available at the CAMTEC facility in the CAM Headquarters located in Bloomfield Hills, or can be presented on site at your request. Programs are designed for construction and are taught by instructors with experience in the industry practices and standards. CAMTEC Certification of Attendance: Participants in any of the CAMTEC sponsored programs will receive a Certificate of Participation that serves as a record of attendance. One Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is awarded for each ten contact hours of instruction. Educational units are awarded in accordance with guidelines set forth by the National Task Force on the Continuing Education Unit. Students must attend 75% of all class time to be eligible to receive CEUs and a Certificate of Completetion.

Reciprocal Electrical Council, Inc. (RECI) to Hold Series of Classes on Electrical Code Updates
The Reciprocal Electricl Council, Inc. (RECI) is pleased to announce their upcoming series of 2011 NEC Update Classes, the current code of record.
The National Electrical Code (NEC) is published every three years by the National Fire Protection Association. For the last 100 years, it has been offered as the minimum safety standard for electrical installations, and became law in Michigan when it was adopted earlier this year. The 2011 NEC went into effect on July 1, 2013.
This means that the 2011 NEC Update Class is required for every Master, Journey, Sign Specialist and Fire Alarm Specialist in order to renew their 2015 licenses. If individuals have not successfully completed the 2011 NEC Update Class when they apply to renew their 2015 license, they will not be able to renew their license until the requirement is fulfilled.

CAM Fall Sporting Clays - September 24
Be sure to reserve your spot in the CAM Fall Sporting Clays shoot on Tuesday, September 24, at Hunters Creek in Metamora. Our last Clays shoot of the year, this promises to be fun day for shooters and sportsmen.
Cost is $95 per shooter. The schedule of events:
- Practice shoot from 10:00 am - Noon
- Five Man Flurry - 50 clays @ $25 or $5 per person, plus shells
- Lunch served at Noon
- Firearms safety orientation
- Shoot begins at 1:30 pm
- Perch dinner, socializing, awards and door prizes
