HBArecapCAM and HBA Host Third Annual Mid-Year Economic Forecast - a Great Success!

CAM and the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan (HBA) hosted their third annual Mid-Year Economic Forecast and State of the Industry Breakfast on June 25th at the Best Western Sterling Inn in Sterling Heights.  There were 220 people in attendance, representing a wide cross-section of the commercial and residential construction industries in Michigan.

Guest speakers were W. Jay Wortley, director of the office of revenue and tax analysis, State of Michigan, and David Sowerby, vice president of Loomis Sayles & Company, Bloomfield Hills.

Mr. Wortley covered the U.S. Economic Review & Outlook, Michigan Economic Review & Outlook, Major Forecast Risks, and State Government Finances. He noted that Michigan's Bond Rating had improved, progressing from "stable" to "positive" in recent trends.

Mr. Sowerby spoke on the upturn of the residential construction segment in Michigan, and rated Michigan's current status with a "B" or "B+". He also stressed that job growth plus income growth equals prosperity, and that current trends point to Michigan heading in that direction.

The presentations were followed by an audience Q&A session.

The event began at 7:30 am with a tour of several tabletop vendors who attended the event, along with a meet & greet with the speakers. A plated breakfast was served prior to the presentations.

Look for the fourth annual Mid-Year Forecast and State of the Industry Breakfast in June 2014.
