Ms. Lockhart would like to give a HUGE shout out to the Energy Tesla Club members who recently competed in the Department of Energy's Regional Science Bowl Competition. Students prepared all fall semester for this quiz bowl-style competition and competed against stiff competition. Though we didn't win this time, we are looking forward to competing next year!

| Eagle Cohort Model UN General Assembly |
Last Friday, the Eagle Cohort, hosted the second annual Model UN General Assembly. The topic this year was to find a way to mitigate the impact of human civilizations on evolutionary rates. The students debated and proposed solutions for various environmental issues which culminated in the creation of UN Agreement - 2016, an update to the Millennium Development Goals of 2000-2015. Students and teachers worked hard to make this event an engaging and memorable event. Great job to the Eagles Cohort!

| Woods Project Parent Meeting |
The Energy Institute High School Camping Club will hold a parent meeting for its Annual Summer Camping Trip this Thursday, February 25th at 6pm. Join us in the Energy Sync Spot to learn about the upcoming two-week summer hiking trip to Yosemite or Glacier National Park. The trip will be from July 9-24 and we have spots for five students. The trip will be led by The Woods Project. At the meeting, we will discuss student requirements and costs. More info at The Woods Project. Questions? Email Mr. Tate [email protected].

Students will now be given detention if they are not wearing a school polo at these required events. The school required polo is not the black IPAA polo students received in the past. Houston PREP is an intensive mathematics-based pre-college enrichment program, which provides educational enrichment opportunities for high ability middle and high school students.

City of Houston Summer Jobs Program:
The City of Houston Summer Jobs Program application opened Monday, February 15th and closes Friday, March 18th. Over 450 positions are available, which will pay $7.25 per hour. Program work weeks will be between 32 - 40 hours per week. In order to be eligible you must be 16 by June 13th, reside in City of Houston Council Districts, must be able to attend a pre-work training the week of June 6th, and work the entire 8 weeks (June 13 - August 5).

It's time for College Knowledge Trivia! The winner from last week's college knowledge trivia question is: Diana Prieto! This week's question is going to be a little tougher, which means a bigger prize: What is the average SAT score, ACT score, and GPA for seniors that get admitted to Colorado School of Mines? Scholarship:

The Courage To Grow Scholarship." For this scholarship you must
submit the application form online and submit a 250 word essay in response to the topic located on the application form.
The deadline is Monday, February 29th but there is a winner every month so you can try again if you don't win the first time. Don't miss out on free money!
HISD Privacy Safety and Security Video Challenge:
Put your PBL skills to work and create a student Public Service Announcement on technology safety and security issues. The winning video will be awarded $200 and will be published by commonsense.org and the Future of Privacy Forum. For more information read the competition outline

This trip is open to all students. Students may attend with their family at The Power Center or ride the bus with Energy. The fair does charge if not attending with a school. Permission slips available today.

Energy is taking students from all grade levels. Students will have to apply to attend by writing a short essay. Applications will become available in the next 1-2 weeks.

| Important SAT Information |
The SAT will be administered on campus for all eleventh grade students Tuesday, April 12th. Mrs. Griggs, our Dean of Instruction, will be working with students in their English class to register for the testing date. If you have questions regarding the April administration of the SAT please contact Mrs. Griggs at [email protected].
SAT Preparation: Students were registered and enrolled in a free online SAT tutorial program offered by Khan Academy this past fall semester. The program is designed to support the new version of the SAT that will roll out this April. Students have access to this program and should be working their way through the tutorials in order to best prepare for the April SAT. Log in with your student tonight to see their progress! Students who earn 50,000 or more energy points on their Khan Academy practice account can apply for the "You Khan Do It Scholarship." Students can win a $500.00 scholarship. Every Tuesday and Thursday during lunch, the Iceland travel group will be selling nachos, hot dogs, and frito pies! Stop by with $3 for something different for lunch. We will also be selling drinks for $1. Food sales will be across from Mrs. MacGregor's office.
The Costa Rica travel group will be selling pizza on Fridays and The Woods Project will be selling pizza every other Wednesday.
All this week BPA will be selling pre-order tickets for the food truck visiting Monday, February 29th. Tickets are $6 for your choice of chicken or beef sliders from Curbside Sliderz. Buy your tickets this week during lunch.
