Possible use of MD Waterway Improvement Funds on DCL

August 31, 2015

Folks,

At the last PRB meeting on July 27th the Sediment Committee, which was formed to review and analyze the DNR Sediment study, reported on the recommendation it had developed to conduct a pilot test for the construction of a wall which would be used to reduce erosion and retain sediment removed from the lake on a limited basis as opposed to wholesale dredging of impacted areas of the lake. The committee sought approval to bring DNR and MDE representatives into the committee so they could review and discuss the concept and move the process forward. It should be noted that through the efforts of our elected representatives, $250,000 is now available for dredging efforts and the committee would like to use this money toward the initiation of the pilot test to determine whether it is a workable solution for wider use.

Accordingly, on August 25th a meeting was held with representatives from DNR, MDE, and ACOE (Army Corps Of Engineers) to gather information about permitting and feasibility related to the various types of dredging.  Also a presentation regarding the Waterway Improvement Fund and how it may be used was furnished by Mark O'Malley with the assistance of Bruce Michael.  Mr. O'Malley's presentation can be found

Cheers,
