Antifreeze Element Added to CA Prop. 65 List for Labeling and Notification Requirement

The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has officially listed ethylene glycol (CAS # 107-21-1) as a chemical required by law for product labeling and employee safety notification requirements. Ethylene glycol is an element in several automotive products including: antifreeze, deicing fluids, surface coatings, heat transfer fluids and industrial coolants, hydraulic fluids, surfactants, and emulsifiers. California's Proposition 65 continues to institute changes to its labeling requirements and notification standards employers and business operators must abide by. However, current law requires specific image and text label requirements on packaging, as well as notification to employees through posters and warnings where exposure can occur. Auto care businesses, including manufacturers, distributors and retailers, operating or selling in California are encouraged to review the current Prop 65 requirements and take steps to comply with the regulation. Should you have any questions regarding the regulation, contact our legislative advocate, Gary Conover at [email protected] or 916. 233. 9655.

Changing Aftermarket: 2014 versus 2009

Aftermarket product volume significantly changed across the four major vehicle-use segments between 2009 and 2014. Passenger cars, once the dominant aftermarket vehicle segment, diminished in product strength over the past five years; while trucks of all sizes fueled nearly 80% of aftermarket product expansion from 2009 to 2014.

Religious Wear at Work: Interactive Dialogue Best When Questions Arise

Consider, our employee wants to wear a St. Christopher medal on a chain around his neck, which is in violation of our company policy since we're a machine shop. He is claiming religious discrimination, and I don't even think his faith requires him to wear this. See the enclosed article for further details on the legal issues involved. Remember, too, as a CAWA member you can receive up to ½ hour per month of FREE legal consultation. See www.cawa.org for the attorney in your state. Another member benefit.
