ASPE (American Society of Professional Estimators) Chapter 17 and NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction) Detroit Chapter 183 are again joining forces to present their annual "Bid Day Simulation" event. This event will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015, from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm at the Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge Campus in Farmington Hills.

This
"Bid Day Simulation" event will share the excitement of the 11th hour activities that take place in Bid Rooms on a regular basis, in a festive and lighthearted atmosphere. This event is meant to introduce the adrenaline-fueled, fast-paced 11th hour bid-day process to students.

Last year's event was so successful that students, area colleges and universities requested that we repeat this event.  Participation is expected from Eastern Michigan University,  Lawrence Technological University, Michigan State University, Oakland Community College and Wayne State University. The evening will be fast-paced and fun-filled with food, participation, awards and prizes.  One or more scholarships will be awarded funded by proceeds from the event.

craneAttention Crane Operators - Be Aware of Rapidly Changing Ground Conditions

Ground conditions, as defined by OHSA, means "the ability of the ground to support the equipment (including slope, compaction, and firmness)".

Ground conditions can be hard to determine and may change throughout the work day. We often rely on data from our customers, or other third parties, when choosing the location for our equipment. When you are setting a crane up, pay attention to the ground conditions, make sure your mats are the correct size and that the mats are in the right condition to support your crane.

If you feel that something is not safe, call a time out and step back to make sure that what we are doing will be done safely. Safety is everyone's job!
