A Message from Council Member
Bryan Frye...
I recently had the privilege of touring Chance Rides Manufacturing with Vice Mayor Clendenin and City staff.  We witnessed the progress being made on the new train for Watson Park. Watson Park has been a family favorite in Wichita for generations, providing a wide array of activities like sand volleyball, boating, fishing, pony rides, miniature golf and everyone's favorite- rides on the Watson Park C.P Huntington train.

The current miniature train was purchased from Chance Manufacturing of Wichita in 1984 and has been operating at OJ Watson Park over the last 31 years. The expense of keeping the train functioning continue to rise as many of the parts needed for replacement are no longer produced. The maintenance charges have totaled $43,000 over the past five years.

During months of community engagement, people in Wichita voiced their support for the park's main attraction.

Last September, City Council approved about $265,000 to purchase a new locomotive train engine, a middle coach, and an additional crossing signal.

The new train will retain the two coaches, which fits 24-30 people, while the additional coach will add 15 to 20 more seats. The new train is expected to be unveiled later this spring.

Have a great weekend!
