Tampa Tribune: Sunday 'blue laws' outdated

Back when I was a Bucs season-ticket holder, I would observe a ritual that was funny to watch but hard to figure out. For games starting at 1 p.m., there would be a mobbing of beer vendors at kickoff time because of a local ordinance that prohibited the sale of alcohol before that hour on Sunday. Tampa Bay Times: Kriseman announces Commerce Park picks

The long-vacant patch of land along 22nd St S, which has gone by at least two names, has finally found tenants and city officials are touting it as the first example of private investment in the newly-created South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Area.

A consortium of marine-parts manufacturers and a motorcycle business picked Tuesday by Mayor Rick Kriseman promise to bring 65 jobs near to some of the city's poorest neighborhoods.

Two masts are towering above all others at Harborage Marina in St. Petersburg this week.

Bay News 9: St. Petersburg angling to be site of future Cuban consulate

If there's one U.S. city that can't wait for diplomatic relations to warm up with Cuba, it's St. Petersburg.

For months, city officials have more than hinted at their interest in breaking ground on a future Cuban consulate.

"We're not as big as our neighbors across the bay," said Ben Kirby, spokeman for St. Petersburg mayor Rick Kriseman, "but we're the right city to host a consulate."
