More Michigan counties achieve no-kill status
Save Rate Map 2014

In 2014, 40% of Michigan's counties were saving 90% or better of their homeless pet population.

"Each year we see the number of counties increase," commented Deborah Schutt, chair of the Michigan Pet Fund Alliance.  "We expect to see even more in 2015."

Several shelters have transitioned to live-saving management, including Lapeer County, Genesee County, and both shelters in Macomb County. The 2015 numbers will reflect those changes along with several shelters that just missed the 90% goal in 2014.

The live-release rate shown on the map to the right is determined by combining the results of all the shelter reports that are submitted to Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development within each county.

Click here for a listing of all the counties and their exact live-release percent rate.
