Happy Birthday to us

After over a century of serving our community, we think we just keep getting better with age.

To all of our staff, volunteers and donors, we couldn't do it without you. Here's to the next 106 years! Read about our history here.

And PJ Moms enjoyed each other's company and learned about healthy eating habits for kids at Mom's Night Out! (see more pics here)

Each year during the month of March, Minnesotans participate in Minnesota FoodShare, an effort to end hunger and food insecurity.

Did you know that one in five residents of Hennepin County go hungry each day? Many of those with food insecurity are children and older adults. At JFCS, many of the individuals and families we serve worry where their next meals will come from or if they'll have adequate resources to cover their food costs for the month. We recognize that perhaps the greatest barrier to food security is access. Not having the ability to get to grocery stores and markets, or not having sufficient funds to cover rent, food, medicine, and transportation, or lacking a support system to help manage these obstacles can make the difference between hunger and food self- sufficiency.

Donations of food at this time of year will help to stock shelves at organizations that serve those with insufficient food. In partnership with PRISM food shelf in Golden Valley, JFCS will do its part in helping to alleviate hunger from our community. JFCS staff will donate food in March and our volunteers will provide assistance. We ask our community to be aware of all the ways you and your family can help ensure that all our neighbors have access to adequate and nutritious food.

There are many ways to help. To volunteer, please contact Deb Savitt, JFCS Community Involvement Manager, at [email protected]. To make a cash donation, please contact Development Director Dana Rubin at [email protected].

Or, read below in Mitzvah Madness to learn the many fun and easy ways that you, your friends and family can get involved and make a difference.

No one should ever go hungry. Children learn better when their stomachs don't rumble. Seniors do better when they have enough money to purchase food and medicine. Two-income families shouldn't go without food in order to pay for rent, heating, electricity and fuel for their cars. Let's all chip in and do what we can to alleviate hunger from our community. To quote that famous Minnesotan, Senator Paul Wellstone, "We all do better when we all do better!"

March is Minnesota FoodShare Month-
this is one food fight you won't want to miss!

Did you know that PRISM food shelf needs 50,000 pounds of food each month in order to stock a food shelf for those who require access?

You can join the fight to help end food insecurity with JFCS and PRISM.
Commit to donating 1,000 pounds in March! It's not as hard as you might think - here's what 1000 pounds of food looks like...

L'Chaim Senior Services Opportunities
A little bit of time makes a big difference to seniors who want to continue to live independently.
Here a two ways....

Love to Organize? Love spring cleaning?
Do you LOVE to organize? Clean up the clutter, organize paperwork and bills, and put everything in its place? Then we need you to help some of our L'Chaim Senior Services program participants get ready for spring. Many opportunities are available to help with cleaning, de-cluttering and household organization.

Russian speakers needed
Many of our clients would love to have Russian speakers in their lives to visit and provide socialization in their native language. If you can speak Russian and have a few hours each week or every other week to spare, join our L'Chaim Senior Services volunteer team and share your skills.

Scheduling is flexible and based on your personal schedule. For more information or to volunteer contact Deb Savitt, Community Involvement Manager, [email protected] or 952-542-4859

DID YOU KNOW: A remarkably unconventional approach to the job search

As a Training Coordinator for JFCS Career S
ervice s, would it be easier for me to just teach classes on jo b search skills that focus on getting a job,
quickly? Yes, absolutely. Would it be easier to just encourage our participants to focus on nothing more than a paycheck? I think so.

But I'm not interested in easy. I'm  interest ed in igniting passion, purpose, and empowering people to feel truly alive.

WITH GRATITUDE: Thank you NextGen-ers!

Thank you to all who attended the NextGen Winter Party. Together they raised over $1,000 for three great JFCS programs: the Parent-Child Home Program, The ACT Program, and Camp Scholarships. What a great way to celebrate NextGen's 4th birthday! See more pics here!
