Featured Festival:  Tulip Time
Holland, May 7-14, 2016
Tulip Festival
Tulip Time is held in Holland from May 7 through 14 featuring 4.5 million tulips, Dutch heritage and culture events, trolley rides, arts & craft fair, a performance by Bill Engvall and MORE. Tulip Time is not only being featured in the MFEA February newsletter but also on television!

P. Allen Smith, one of America's most recognized, award-winning garden and design experts, shared ideas and inspiration for all gardening enthusiasts during Tulip Time 2015. But what many don't know is that while he was here in Holland, his production crew was busy experiencing Tulip Time as well.  The crew immersed themselves in all of the festival happenings in order to create exciting episodes that are now being featured on P. Allen Smith's Garden Home and his syndicated 30-minute show, P. Allen Smith Garden Style.

The episodes include segments on The City of Holland and its involvement in America In Bloom, Tulip Time festivities including everything from street scrubbing to sampling Dutch foods at Marktplaats, and a grain-to-glass story about Coppercraft Distilleries featuring Windmill Island Gardens and DeZwaan.
"It was so much fun hosting Allen's crew during the festival," stated Gwen Auwerda, executive director of Tulip Time. "It gave all of us a chance to share our best with the crew, and now, nationwide with the viewers of these great programs."

P. Allen Smith's Garden Style "Double Dutch" segment can now be viewed on YouTube.

P. Allen Smith's Garden Home episode 1506 "It's Tulip Time," which includes additional footage of Allen's visit, is scheduled to run on WGVU TV on Saturday, April 30th and will repeat on WGVU and Life during the week of May 1.

For any questions regarding the television features or Tulip Time, feel free to contact Susan Zalnis

MFEA will also be presenting as part of the grant workshop programs.  We would love to see you learn to write a successful grant proposal and proudly represent your organization and MFEA.

MCACA Executive Director, John Bracey, believes these grant workshops will help organizations be successful in the grant review process and therefore receiving funding. Which in turn "ensures families have have opportunities to do things together, to learn about their heritage, to express themselves and think critically and just have some fun. Simply put, they make Michigan better."
Funding available for operations, projects, professional development, capital improvements, and mini-grants through your regional re-granting organization. Check out full schedule and details here.

Who's Talking Now?
Donut Diner Logo
Vickie & Dennis Bragg of
The Donut Diner
You may remember the sweet smell and delightful taste of the mini donuts each morning at the registration table at the  23rd Annual Convention . Well look no further, Vickie and Dennis Bragg tell their story of  The Donut Diner :

We were owner/operators at Wandering Wheels Campground in Munising, MI for 10 yrs.  After selling our business in '01, we were searching for the perfect opportunity.

On a trip to Florida, we enjoyed the mini donuts at one of the local flea markets and the idea was formed.  We started thinking about building a concession trailer.

The Donut Diner was established in 2003 with a brand new custom designed trailer, and began working at fairs and festivals throughout Michigan. The Donut Diner is on wheels, so it comes to your event to sell hot, fresh treats.

We remember receiving the phone call from MFEA to offer our mini donuts to all convention goers many years ago, and we were glad to do it!  Our membership has provided a great connection for helping to understand the events from all angles.   Whether it is the requirements of the festival or our requirements (hookups, etc. for our trailer) it helps to work together to provide the very best for all festival attendees.

Donut Diner provides more than those tasty mini-donuts! You can find their full menu on their  website , which includes pretzel fillers, slusheez, jumbo pretzels, Pepsi products, coffee and cappuccino, and of course varieties of mini donuts, and dippin' donuts. Contact Vickie and Dennis Bragg to book The Donut Diner for your next event!
