A Meditation from Frederich Buechner
Quote of the Day: Goodbye
A WOMAN WITH A scarf over her head hoists her six-year-old up onto the first step of the school bus. "Goodbye," she says.
A father on the phone with his freshman son has just finished bawling him out for his poor grades. There is mostly silence at the other end of the line. "Well, goodbye," the father says.
When the girl at the airport hears the announcement that her plane is starting to board, she turns to the boy who is seeing her off. " I guess this is goodbye," she says.
The noise of the traffic almost drowns out the sound of the word, but the shape of it lingers on the old man's lips. He tries to look vigorous and resourceful as he holds out his hand to the other old man. "Goodbye." This time they say it so nearly in unison that it makes them both smile.
It was a long while ago that the words God be with you disappeared into the word goodbye, but every now and again some trace of them still glimmers through.

News From Mother Kelly
The New Art Room
Romans 12:1 -
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship.
|
Dear Families,
The Art Room is a new dedicated space, in which our young people can respond to God's Word during the Eucharist. Following the Children's Homily during the 10:30am Eucharist on Sundays, two adults will lead children 5 years or older to Classroom 3, one room down from the nursery. In this space, for about half an hour, children are encouraged to draw, create, and participate in service projects that will engage them further in God's Word that they heard in the service.
They will all return at the Offertory, to join their families and take Communion together. Last Sunday was our first run, and the children made cards to put in the donation bags for Bastrop firefighters.

'Twas a Dark and Stormy Night!
Organ music fit for the crypt and a bit of Halloween hilarity will revive your spirits, as Seminary of the Southwest music director Kevin McClure and a collection of weird friends collaborate on another 'Twas A Dark and Stormy Night concert!
This Austin tradition (since 1992) materializes on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in its new location in Christ Chapel, at the corner of Rathervue and Duval.
Austin Ghouls' Choir, the Three Dead Tenors and Austin Symphony's Bob Cannon make ghassstly . . . appearances. Free. Family friendly, great for all ages, costumes welcome!

Do Something Where You Count...
. . . and sing! (Yes, the pun is intended.) The ECR Choir is starting Advent and Christmas music next week, and here's your chance to get your weekly holiday fix without involving shopping! We practice Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 in the choir room. Come add your voice to the fun! All voice parts are very welcome, and we'd particularly like to find a few more basses to keep Andy Lyon company. Drop our music director a note at [email protected] , and we'll be sure to have a folder ready for you!

Supplies for the Firefighters No longer Needed
We have been informed that sufficient supplies have been collected for the firefighters, so it isn't necessary to bring any more. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed the supplies last Sunday and through the week. They were undoubtedly greatly appreciated by the recipients.
