"Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matthew 11:29-30
We live in a busy world. We live in the busiest times that there ever have been, and it is not going to change. Truth be told, many of us like to be busy. It's a chance to immerse ourselves in projects, relationships, and work. Sometimes this busyness is somewhat restful, and other times it is not. It could be related to the burden of the work and project load, or possibly what we yoke ourselves to. No matter what the cause for our busy lives, one of my favorite ways to find rest is watching animals and playing with my pets.
I love sitting by the window and watching the birds fly and hop around, looking for food and entertainment, as they play with one another. I also very much enjoy the lizards running through the yucca plants, leaping from branch to branch. Then there is Miles our cat, and Redd our dog, who live under our roof.
The cat courses around my ankles rubbing his face on my feet. I like to think he is marking me as his own and reminding me of his major burden, that his food bowl is empty. The dog patiently waits his turn, but his heaviest burden is that he really needs his belly rubbed. Although food is a close second, he's not that hungry, since he already ate the loaf of bread I left on the table that morning.
I enjoy taking care of my pets and watching creation buzz around me. I like it, because there is no other place on this planet, where I see the living proof of a gentle yoke and a light burden. Our animals are reminders of rest, even better they are excuses to stop and rest. I hope you can find good rest this week and remember that we are loved dearly by a creator who loves being yoked to his creation.

When We Walk With Our Animals
That would be this coming Sunday morning upon the occasion of the Feast of St. Francis! Our 10:30 am service will be held on the green behind the Thrift Shop, and you are invited to bring your beloved companion animals for the St. Francis blessing.
We do ask that you bring all dogs on a leash and cats in a carrier for their safety. It will be a lovely day for blessings.

Are You Ready for TheRetreat?
With just nine days to go, hope everyone has made plans to spend a wonderful day at Mckinney Falls State Park on October 10th, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Rain or shine, just come at a time and for however long you wish during the day. Everyone brings food and/or drink (non-alcoholic), to share pot luck style, so lunch and dinner and snacks will be served. The rest of the day is yours to be enjoyed however you wish, knowing there is swimming, hiking the trails, fishing and exploring our universe after dark, and a photo contest. You can do as much or as little as you want, no agenda or schedule. Cooler Fall weather should be setting in by Oct. 10th for comfortable outdoor activity.
What is most important will be the time and fellowship we share at a casual gathering outside of church, in a beautiful place. What a great opportunity to get to know your church community better. Home base will be the Group Recreation Hall, which has a furnished kitchen, patio and Bar-B-Q pit. You might want to bring some lawn chairs. The only cost is the Park's day use fee of $6 per person, under age 12, free.
If you need transportation or have any other special need, please let the Family Retreat Coordinators: Bob Beyer, Andy Lyon or Jennifer Johnston know. McKinney Falls S.P. is just off Hwy 183 adjacent to the airport. Hope to see everyone there.

Dear Friends,
Thank you, Phillip South, Granville Ott, and the Boy Scout Troop.
They made fourteen (!) of these lovely work tables that are already being used in our Atrium. No chair necessary - simply kneel and create. A prayerful way for our children to respond to God's Word.

Do Something Where You Count...
. . . and sing! (Yes, the pun is intended.) The ECR Choir is starting Advent and Christmas music next week, and here's your chance to get your weekly holiday fix without involving shopping! We practice Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 in the choir room. Come add your voice to the fun! All voice parts are very welcome, and we'd particularly like to find a few more basses to keep Andy Lyon company. Drop our music director a note at [email protected] , and we'll be sure to have a folder ready for you!

Helen Paulsen has announced that the St. Clare Chapter of the Daughters of the King will meet on Oct. 18th at Noon in Classroom 4.

ECR Thrift Shop Could Use Some Workers
Take a look at your calendar and see if you have a day to give three hours to the ministry at the Thrift Shop from 10 am through 1 pm or the first Saturday of the month.
There's work for all types of personalities and talents. The best thing is that whatever you do, it will make a difference to someone.
If you want to give it a try before you make a commitment, no problem. Come over for a day or two and see what you think. And just in case you think it's dull or boring, we've included the photo on the right of Lana, modeling some of the merchandise, as she is often inclined to do.

Feel Like Dancing?
The folks next door say that they want to trip the lite fantastic, on Oct. 8th, from 6:30 pm to 8:30pm, and they've invited us at ECR to join them. The rehab community will have a live band with dancing, food, and more.
The event lineup includes: Costumes, prizes, ice cream, barbecue, games and contests. You can bring the kids, and have a great time. This is their 37th Annual Bash. |

Acolyte in Training
On Sunday Sept 20th, Liam Tweedie started his training as an acolyte during the 8:30 am service. By all accounts, he did a splendid job. The early service is a good place to start training, because it is low key, and there isn't a lot of stress on a child to "perform." Vitaly Jennings has also assisted at that service in the past.
Acolyting is an excellent way for children to serve and to experience the service of the Lord as their own, to know that they are loved and needed in their church.
