HazCom
Hazard Communication Requirements Effective June 1st

As of June 1, 2015, chemical manufacturers are required to be producing updated Safety Datasheets, which include the 16 required sections and applicable pictograms, and labeling containers consistent with the new standard.

Employers have until June 1, 2016 to update the language of their written Hazard Communication Program, overhaul their collection of Safety Data Sheets, remove old container labels, and replace them with the updated versions.  The deadline for training employees on the new standard was in December 2013.

If you haven't met this training requirement, check out CAM's June 24th class which will address common health hazards and the revised HazCom standard.

OSHA Creates a New Construction Confined Spaces Standard

On May 1, 2015, Federal OSHA issued a final rule outlining the new version of the Confined Spaces Standard for Construction.  The final rule is similar in content and organization to the general industry confined spaces standard, but also incorporates several provisions from the proposed rule to address construction-specific hazards, accounts for advancements in technology, and improves enforceability of the requirements.  The new rules will go into effect on August 2, 2015.   Our inside sources indicate MIOSHA  plans to incorporate the new standard without changes.

Registration is now open for Move Detroit: Creating Vibrant, Inclusive and Innovative Public Places - a free event that will explore ways to make Detroit more livable and create places that allow people to walk, bike, access transit and enjoy parks and other public spaces. The event offers a curated immersion week of workshops, discussions and activities with international community development expert Gil Penalosa, founder and Chair of 8 80 Cities.

Presented by Jefferson East, Inc.(JEI) in partnership with Wayne State Office of Economic Development with support from the John S. and James L. "We look forward to bringing together as many people as possible for these important, efficacy-focused conversations," says Joshua Elling, executive director of JEI.  "The community development work Penalosa has done with his 8 80 Cities initiatives is exciting, progressive and, most importantly, extremely effective.
