Your support in action

A young woman recently came to Twin Oaks Shelter for the Homeless with her young children. Due to medical concerns, she could no longer afford her rent. When she arrived at Twin Oaks, her children were bundled up in winter gear, but she was wearing two sweatshirts instead of a winter coat. She was near tears when the case manager brought her a donated coat.

What might have seemed like a small gesture to the person donating their old coat meant the world to a young mother in Walworth County.

How does Community Action provide food assistance?

In addition to a food pantry for residents at Twin Oaks Shelter, Community Action administers TEFAP, The Emergency Food Assistance Program. TEFAP is a federal program that distributes food from the USDA to local food pantries.

In 2015, Community Action distributed 528,837 pounds of food in Rock and Walworth counties through TEFAP.
