Elaine Bloom Named CEO of Plaza Health Network

The Honorable Elaine Bloom, former Florida State Representative, has been named president and CEO of Plaza Health Network, the largest not-for-profit network of rehabilitation and skilled nursing centers in Miami-Dade County.

"The Plaza Health Network Board of Directors is thrilled to welcome Ms. Bloom to the organization," said Board Chairman Ronald Lowy. "She has long been a champion of the frail and elderly of our community in her roles as an elected public official, on local government boards and commissions and in community organizations."

A resident of Miami-Dade since 1962, Ms. Bloom has provided leadership to South Florida for over 40 years. She served two different tenures in the Florida House of Representatives -- the first from 1974-1978, the other from 1986-2000 -- and chaired eight different committees and subcommittees including Health Care, and Social and Economic Services. She was the prime sponsor of more than 100 major new laws and was elected Speaker Pro Tempore (1992-1994).

Senior advocacy issues were a top legislative priority for Ms. Bloom. She helped create the Department of Elder Affairs and was the author of Florida's Community Care for the Elderly Act to enable frail elderly to be in their own homes with periodic assistance. She also wrote the legislation establishing the Agency for Health Care Administration, which supervises all health facilities. She was responsible for much legislation to protect the elderly from abuse...

Boca Raton Regional Hospital Listed by U.S. News & World Report Among Nation's High Performing Hospital in Common Care

Boca Raton Regional Hospital has been designated "high performing" in heart failure, hip replacement and knee replacement procedures in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals for Common Care ratings. The ratings evaluate more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide on common inpatient procedures and conditions.

U.S. News analyzed hospitals in five procedures and medical conditions - heart bypass surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement, heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) - and rated those high performers, average or below average. Roughly 10 percent of hospitals reviewed were listed as high performers. Boca Regional was the sole hospital in Palm Beach County and one of only 10 of the 145 studied in Florida to be cited as high performing in three or more categories.
