Companies also can claim credits from prior years and request a refund. In addition to the federal R&D credit, many states also offer credits for research activity.

Manufacturer's Edge Welcomes Nathan Morimitsu
Nathan's Headshot
Manufacturer's Edge New Marketing Manager, Nathan Morimitsu
By Tom Bugnitz, Manufacturer's Edge CEO
We are delighted to welcome a new member to the team to direct our marketing and outreach programs.  Nathan Morimitsu comes to us with 20 years of diverse experience in marketing with talents ranging from marketing campaign management, data analysis, and social media outreach to graphic design.  Nathan will be responsible for all of our marketing efforts, including coordination with our partners and national MEP people.
Nathan's work will touch many of you, as he is charged with supporting your endeavors as well as ours.  For Manufacturer's Edge, marketing is not just about increasing awareness of how we support manufacturers.  It's also about helping to create a "brand" for all Colorado manufacturers, and for the broader Manufacturing industry. It's about understanding the needs of manufacturers and what we and our partners need to do to help satisfy those needs.  It's about knowing who our manufacturers are, where they are located, what they do, and how they fit into the manufacturing community in Colorado. It's about communicating all of that to our legislators, our educators, and the larger business community.
Nathan will be reaching out to you in a number of ways as we ramp up a robust marketing and awareness effort.  Whether you are a manufacturer or part of the manufacturing support network in Colorado, don't hesitate to let him know how we can help you.  He can be reached by email at [email protected] and by phone at 970-980-8798.
Welcome, Nathan, and Good Luck!
Beers and Gears in Arvada
Beers & Gears is going to Arvada this month to highlight some fantastic Manufacturers and some great beer! The Beers & Gears events are a great way  to see how others are taking advantage of the unique training and services that Manufacturer's Edge provides.

Odyssey Beerwerks is the meeting point for this event. From there we will take a short walk over to Unique Natural Products to see how they make their fascinating line of natural cleaning products. The tour continues with a visit to their neighbor, The Dough Source, a family owned manufacturer of scented and custom branded modelling dough (think Play-Doh® with a Colorado twist!)

After you see the bright colors at The Dough Source we will head back to Odessy Beerwerks to enjoy  one of several exciting beers like their Heliocentric Hefeweizen, Boot to the Head Imperial IPA, and Ghost Drifter Pale Ale. There will also be food available from Talarico's Italian Taste!

Beers and Gears is co-sponsored by  BKD, Bank of Colorado, and PFS Insurance Group

Primeflex Labels Making a Mark on Colorado Products
By by Eric Peterson for CompanyWeek

Martin and Cummings knew each other from working at a Chicago-based label maker and reconnected in Colorado in the 1990s to co-found Primeflex.

"We knew there was a lot of label and packaging business that was being sent out of state," says Martin.

Primeflex started with a lot of blank labels for the retail book industry. "We were at the commodity end of the market," says Cummings. UPC stickers for the back cover were a specialty, he adds. "We literally ran those by the truckload."

In the years since, the company has moved six times, investing in more and more capital equipment along the way, before buying their current Inverness facility in 2010.
Also along the way Primeflex has moved from commodity labels to high-margin ones. "As our customer base evolved, so did we," notes Cummmings.
"The place we are now is completely different from where we started," says Martin. "The real sweet spot in the marketplace are the high-color labels that create branding for the business."
