With God's Help,

Our Visiting Preacher for Sunday:

George Ronkowitz began his ordained ministry upon ordination as a priest in 1971 in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport, CT.  He served for over eight years in parish ministry.  His remaining three years as a Director of Development and teacher in an inner-city high school while being Director of a Diocesan wide Adult School of Spirituality.

Upon taking a leave of absence from ordained ministry he worked as a Personnel Administrator for Richardson-Vicks Inc. and subsequently as Director of Development for the University of Bridgeport. Married in1985 and with the support of his wife he began the process to having his orders recognized by the Episcopal Church.  He was received as a priest in the Diocese of Connecticut in December 1988.

At that time he began functioning as a bi-vocational or "worker" priest.  He served as a non-stipendiary assisting priest at St. Andrew's and St. Peter's Parish both in Milford, CT until 1995.  During this time he continued working at the University of Bridgeport and then as Vice President for Government Relations and Development at Park City Hospital in Bridgeport, CT.  In 1995 drawn by the desire to serve the Lord more deeply, he was asked to become the Vicar for Trinity-St. Michael's in Fairfield CT on a part-time basis until 2003.  He also worked as the Executive Director of the Naugatuck CT Housing Authority of which he served until April 2002.

In mid-2003 with the support of his wife and children and after much discernment and prayer, he and his family moved to Homestead, FL to answer a call to serve as Rector and Headmaster of St. John's Church and School.  His wife, Janice, died of cancer in 2007.   Fr. George has been recently married to his lovely bride, Lana.  He and Lana have four adult children.

Safeguarding God's People -- Report
Kudos to Trainer Ann Harrington, after completing the first Safeguarding God's People Class at Resurrection. Although the course includes some difficult content to cover, Ann covered it all expertly and with grace. It was well attended by members of the Bishop's Committee and others, with three attendees from other local churches. Another class will be offered in June, for those who missed this one.

The nominating committee has submitted the names of four candidates for the office of the 27th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church. The new Presiding Bishop will be chosen at the General Convention on June 26th. You can see a photo of each candidate and read a brief biography of each by clicking on this link:

News from the Atrium

Happy Ascension Day, everyone!

"Unless a grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain, but if it dies, it bears much fruit." - John  12:24

We had such a beautiful meditation last Sunday on the Mystery of Life and Death, recalling these words of Jesus.  We touched and ate grains of wheat, and looked at pecans I pulled out of my yard, that had both rooted and sent shoots up.  The seeds/nuts themselves had broken apart, "died" one of the children said.  But look at what happened when it did.  Something NEW and life-giving happened.

What does it mean to bear fruit, one child asked?  What a great question.  You could see the children's minds opening to this being a symbol of something deeper, even, as one child put it, the fruit referring to a grown up's own children.  A grandparent may die, but she leaves behind beautiful fruit: her children.

We do aim to carry on with the Atrium into the summer.  But I hope to mark the end of the school year in some way soon.  Stay tuned.

Julie Garza is our atrium parent this Sunday. Sunday, May 17.

Peace,
Kelly
