The State Board of Education welcomed and swore in new member MJ Bolt, a new board member elected by eastern Washington school board members.

Aligning Educator Compensation Systems with New Credentialing Policies and Address Teacher Shortages as a 2016 Legislative Priority
Location Change for the March 8-9, 2017 meeting
Special Board Meeting for Reviewing and Establishing High School Cut Scores, including Alternative Assessment Cut Scores on August 15, 2016
Credit-based Graduation Requirements Waiver for Issaquah School District
Temporary Waiver for College and Career Graduation Requirements for Clarkston School District, Everett Public Schools, and Spokane Public Schools
ESSA Position Statement
Filing of CR-101 (Preproposal Statement of Inquiry) for Possible Amendment to Chapter 180-105 WAC (Performance Improvement Goals)

Presentations to the Board:

Executive Director Ben Rarick provided an update on staff activities.
The board welcomed guests from the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board to discuss a presentation by the National Association of State Boards of Education about bolstering the second "C" in college and career readiness.
Student member Baxter Hershman presented on student's perspective on career readiness.
Staff presented on Governor Inslee's budget proposal.
Staff also presented with the Public Educator Standards Board about a proposed joint legislative priority.
Staff and representatives from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction presented a data spotlight about graduation rates and discipline with newly released disaggregated data.
Staff and representatives from OSPI and the Wellpinit School District presented on Required Action District updates.
Representatives from the Issaquah School District presented its application for a waiver of Credit-Based Graduation Requirements for Gibson Ek High School.
A panel, consisting of representatives from the Washington State School Director's Association, Association of Washington School Principals, Washington Education Committee, Washington Association of School Administrators, and the U.S. Senate HELP Committee, discussed the Every Student Succeeds Act and its implications for Washington state.
OSPI presented and answered board members' questions about the Alternative Learning Experience transition that some former public charter schools are considering to continue providing services to students. There are no written or visual materials for this topic.
