Here's your March  2016 Hillsboro Newsletter...

March 2016
March is here and with it the promise of Spring and longer days lie ahead. (Don't forget to set your clocks ahead on March 13.) We will be celebrating the Lord's Resurrection on Easter Sunday, March 27 with a special musical presentation: "The Mercy Tree." Be sure and invite your family members and friends to this and all our holy week services. A personal invite from you is always best!

The Pastor Search team continues to meet every Monday night and they continue to receive and review resumes and referrals and conduct phone interviews. They ask that you keep them in prayer as they work together to discern God's will for our church body, concerning calling a new Senior Pastor.

Work continues on renovating the Education Building making space available for both offices for staff and classrooms. Please pray for our Pastor Search Team, for all the Staff, the members of the Leadership Council, all our faithful volunteers and our whole church body as we seek to glorify God in all that we do.. and  as we all join together to live out our Church's mission--- to know God's Word, to show His Love and to grow His Kingdom!
"On a hill called Calvary stands an endless mercy tree. Every broke and weary soul, find your rest and be made whole."
WORSHIP
Our preparation for Easter began on Ash Wednesday as we all reflected on what it means to be "crucified with Christ," as we literally put our own names on the cross as a reminder. On Sunday, March 27 we will be turning the cross into a symbol of the hope of the resurrection by filling it with cut flowers. (We will have flowers for you and you are also welcome to bring your own.)

Easter week, or Holy week as it is also called, begins with Palm Sunday on March 20. Then on Maundy Thursday, March 24, we will have a Family Seder Supper at 6pm. (This is the same seder Jesus observed with his disciples on the night that he was betrayed. It is filled with rich and symbolic meanings, and as such is a great learning experience for the entire family!)  It will include the Seder with a complete dinner. Please call the church office or use the sign up sheet in the sanctuary to reserve your space. (Please note:This will replace the Wed. night dinner and classes on Wed. March 23.)

On Good Friday the church will be open for prayer from noon to 3 pm.
Saturday we will be hosting another Parents' Morning Out from 9-11:30 followed by a Community Easter Egg Hunt at noon. Once again please spread the word...a personal invite from you is the always the most effective way to invite people!!!

Our Easter choir is busy rehearsing the musical: "The Mercy Tree" which we will be presenting on Easter Sunday. Pastor Joel Jenkins will be bringing us a powerful resurrection message of hope. Be sure to invite family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers, perhaps even random people you run into like cashiers or the cable guy... People are searching for the hope that only Jesus can give! So invite them to our Easter Sunday and Holy week services.

Prior to our Easter Service is the Community Easter Sunrise Service at Mint Springs Park from 6-7 am. This is always a meaningful way to start celebrating the resurrection with other believers from our community.

Closings and Cancellations
Just a note that if inclement weather hits us and services or church events are postponed, a notice will be sent out through Constant Contact email, a voice-mail message will be on the church office phone, and time permitting, notices should also be posted on Channel 29. Always be safe!!!
Sunday Morning Bible Studies

9:00 AM
David C Cooke Bible-in-Life
 'The Spirit Comes'
led by Kelly Bauer

We are studying the Book of Acts.  The focus is "The Christian community Comes Alive." The study is about the first church and how the Holy Spirit empowered the disciples to spread the Gospel.
We meet in the classroom at the end of the hall of the Education Building.

"Are These The Last Days?" by Charles P. Schmitt
 led by Dennis Bailey

Solomon says in Proverbs 4:18 that we can expect an increase in enlightenment and an expansion of understanding as we approach the last days.
That is Charles P. Schmitt's position as he presents a fresh scrutiny of Old and New Testament prophetic scriptures in the light of today's world events. He traces not only the conflict between Israel and the Arab world but also their amazing last-days promises of restoration. At all times he underscores the primary backdrop for any Christian view of the last days: worldwide evangelism before the end comes.

Fourth Friday Fellowship
You are invited to fellowship every fourth Friday of the month at 6 pm at the home of the Carrazanas'. Everyone is welcome although Gena would appreciate it if you could send her an email and let her know you are coming if you can... just so they can reasonably "guesstimate" the seating. (Not a prerequisite though!)This is a potluck dinner and time set aside to relax and to just be "family" together.  Please contact Gena at [email protected] or by calling (434) 989-8834 for more information or directions.

PRESCHOOL NEWS

Hillsboro Christian Preschool is in full swing with our spring semester. January and February brought us a few Snow Days to enjoy.  The snowflakes reminded us that we are all unique and made in God's image.

March we are looking forward to our visit from the Wildlife Center of Virginia. We all enjoy seeing the beautiful animals created by God.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support of this awesome ministry of Hillsboro Baptist Church.  Enrollment for the 2016-2017 year is now open.  We are excited to see how God works in the months ahead.
