Upcoming Events at the Center

	Queer Afrofuturism March 3rd, 2016 \| 5-7pm Join us with speaker Nana Fofie as we come together to hold space for radical and transformative black love and healing to (re)imagine the possibilities for queer, black futures that no longer allow our existences to be subject to state-sanctioned violence and disposability. This is a closed space for black, queer and/or trans-identified folks.
	24-Hour Study Jam March 13th, 6pm to March 14th During finals week, the LGBT Resource Center will be open for a 24-hour period, beginning on Sunday at 6pm and carrying over until Monday, when we will have regular hours, until 7pm.
	Queer Classes Next Quarter at the Center Two Critical Gender Studies classes will be meeting in the LGBT RC next quarter - check them out! CGS 87: Intro to LGBTQ Studies. Professor David Serlin, Tues, 11-1pm. This seminar will introduce students to important historical discussions and theoretical frameworks that have been central to the development of LGBTQ studies over the past five decades. CGS 87: Who Cares? Professor Joseph Hankins, Tues, 3:30-4:30pm. When does the pain of another matter to us? In this seminar we will discuss the labor of caring for different kinds of people and things. What kind of politics might be built out of compassion?
	Community Call for Art/Logo for Out & Proud Week Calling all artists! This year's Out & Proud week's theme is "Beyond The Rainbow: More Than Single Issue Lives" and we're looking to showcase art created by our community. We're taking submissions for the Logo for Out & Proud Week. This will be featured in our bookmarks, buttons, and Out and Proud Week marketing. To submit send digital file to [email protected], include your name, contact information, and a short artist statement by April 1st.
	UC San Diego's Out and Proud Week Call for Programs Submission Deadline: Friday April 1st Out and Proud Week Takes Place April 18-22, 2016 Out and Proud Week presents the largest opportunity for community visibility on the UC San Diego campus. It is a week-long group celebration and private reflection on the achievements of LGBT-identified students, staff, and faculty and our allies. It is also a time for public awareness and discussion of current LGBT issues on the state and national levels. Please submit program proposal to be listed in our Out and Proud Week Calendar. 	QTPOC Wellness Wednesdays 12-1pm \| LGBT Resource Center Join us to be in community; Each week we have a different activity! These activities are specifically designed for queer and trans people of color and as such it is a closed space. They range from self-care projects to group discussions about important subjects.
	Friday Funday 2pm \| LGBT Resource Center Friday Fundays are happening every week this quarter! The activities vary by week, and it's sure to be a fun and totally relaxing way to spend the end of a week of midterms. There will also be snacks and tea and awesome people, so come check it out!
	LGBT RC Open for Submissions! Interested in displaying your art at the LGBT Resource Center? We're open to any medium, from paintings, doodles, prints, poetry, stories, zines, comics, film, animation, music, to 3-D art pieces. Be sure to keep the values of our space in mind when submitting your art work: Family, Community, Respect, and Social Justice. Contact Art and Activism Intern Fri Garcia at[email protected]. Keep in mind displaying some of these may require creativity; discuss with Fri to figure out how to best display it.

Campus Community Center Events

	Mujer Mariposa March 3rd, 2016 \| 5-7pm Cross-Cultural Center Enjoy a perfomative and engaging art experience here at UCSD. Mujer Mariposa is an original spoken word and acoustic album by Diana Cervera, dedicated to migrant and refugee women, who are at the margins of society. In light of the migratory situation in the US and internationally, it's important to bring artists into dialogue with women from many backgrounds.
	Women of Color in the Academy March 2nd, 2016 \| 11:30am-1:00pm Cross-Cultural Center Library You have the opportunity to hear from three distinguished UCSD professors about life as a woman academia. Dr. Angela Booker, from the Communications departement, Dr. Daphne Taylor-Garcia, from Ethnic Studies, and Dr. Olivia Graeve, from Mechanical Aerospace Engineering, will be talking to students in this event, which is a collaboration between the Women's Center and the Cross-Cultural Center. Light refreshments will be served.
	WiiFit Party March 3rd, 2016 \| 4-7pm Cross-Cultural Center As part of the Cross-Cultural Center's Winter Wellness Series, come hang out, chill before finals, and play! Entertainment abounds - there will be fun board games, cool people, and a WiiFit Party! Light refreshments will be provided.
	International Women's Day Presents: K-Dramas, Pop Culture, and Intersectionality: A Conversation on Imperfect Activism March 8th, 2016 \| 7-8pm (doors open at 6pm) Multipurpose Room, Student Services Center For International Women's Day, we present a Q&A session with Dodai Stewart, the Director of Culture Coverage at Fusion, a multi-platform media company launched in 2013. She was previously the deputy editor (and one of the founding editors) at Jezebel.com. UCSD's 2016 IWD theme is #ActivismLooksLike. Dodai's talk will focus on themes of activism, self-care, and intersectionality as they relate to pop culture. Free FEMINIST t-shirts from the Women's Center will be given to the first 40 people to arrive. This will be t he culmination of a week of events. Full calendar avail able here .
	Forks Over Knives Film Screening March 28th, 2016 \| 2-4pm Black Resource Center This thought-provoking film screening, hosted by BRC intern Refilwe, will show Forks Over Knives and use it as a starting point to start discussing food history and industry. It will delve into critical analysis of various food industries and the real effect of certain foods on bodies. This is the first part in a longer series connecting food and environment with social justice work more broadly.
	Crafts Day at the CCC March 10th, 2016 \| 12-3pm \| Cross Cultural Center Come to the Cross Cultural Center to take a break from work or school. Take home what you create, whether it is a picture frame, wooden box, canvas, or anything else you choose to make! All supplies will be provided to you, and everyone is welcome to join in! Summer Internship at API Equality

Do you want to work with LGBTQ API communities? Do you have a commitment to social justice? Do you want to learn concrete community organizing skills? API Equality - Northern California is an organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area, working at the intersections of LGBTQ and Asian and Pacific Islander identity. The internship runs for two months, from June to August.

	Trip to Mexican Border March 5th, 2016 \| 9am Join the Six Colleges on a border immersion bus trip to the US-Mexico Border! Cost includes transportation, lunch, water, and donation to agency.The bus will load at 9:00 AM on Rupertus Ln. by the Student Services Center. Please bring your Eventbrite receipt and your UCSD student ID. It is highly recommend that you bring a water bottle and comfortable walking shoes.Tickets must be purchased by 8:00 AM on Thursday, March 3. This is in collaboration with the group Border Angels. 	Call for Student Commencement Speakers Deadline: March 18th, 2016 The university is looking for one student to give an inspiration message to fellow graduates at commencement! All graduating undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate. The speech can be up to five minutes long, and should be on the event's them, Service to the Community and the World. To apply, you need to fill out the All-Campus Commencement Student Speaker Application.
	PFLAG Scholarships Deadline: March 15th, 2016 PFLAG is offering scholarships to all LGBT students, high school, undergraduate, and grad students. Scholarships are awarded based on a well-written application essay, demonstrated financial need, a history of strong academic achievement. Note that the application calls for a letter of recommendation in addition to the form, school transcript and essay. Application available here.
	Student Satisfaction Survey Jan. 11th - Mar. 11th Fill out the student satisfaction survey! 	3rd Annual BlaqOUT Conference April 8-9, 2016 University of California, Riverside We cordially invite all folks who self identify as Black/AfricanAmerican or of African Descent and as Same Gender Loving, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning or somewhere on the LGBTQ Spectrum, to apply to attend. If you are an ally to our communities, we encourage you to attend the QPOC Conference on April 29 - May 1 at the University of California, Berkeley. The QPOC Conference is open to all individuals. Through this conference, we hope to create safe and courageous spaces that foster the discussion of issues relevant to those who self identify as Black/African American or of African Communities on the LGBTQ Spectrum. Various Workshops, keynotes, and activities will be designed to unite our community and equip us with the resources necessary to face issues that affect us as marginalized individuals. 	Dining Out for Life® San Diego April 28th, 2016 On Thursday, April 28, 2016, more than 100 participating restaurants, bars, coffeehouses and nightclubs in San Diego will donate 25-100% of sales to The Center's HIV/AIDS services and prevention program. Healing Yoga for Trans Folks and Friends Saturdays \| 10:45am 3909 Centre Street, San Diego, CA 92103 This class is free and open to Trans folks and allies. Class begins at 10:45 and is taught by Christine Taylor, who has generously donated her time. Healing Yoga teachings are derived from the self-empowering practices of yoga, utilizing a wide range of tools to help enhance well-being and health. Lesbian Body Image Survey The Department of Psychology at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville is doing a study on lesbian attitudes & feelings about your own body,gender identity and gender expression. Young Women's Discussion Group Third Tuesday of each month 3909 Centre Street, San Diego, CA 92103 This group is aimed at young women ages 18-30. We will discuss issues relevant such as politics, academics, careers, relationships, social media, pop culture, activism and ways to be involved in the LGBT community. We hope to provide a safe and comfortable place to meet and share experiences as members of the LGBT community. It meets in The LGBT Center's library.	New Free App to Find LGBT Roommates: TUTUroomii A San Diego team recently launched a new iOS app called TUTUroomii. This app is designed to help LGBTQ+ young people and allies find ideal roommates in their own community. This app is available in the App Store. Survey of LGBTQ Military Personnel A doctoral student at the University of Oklahoma is writing a dissertation on the identity process of LGBTQ people who have served in the U.S. military. They're interested in reaching LGBTQ U.S. military personnel, and heterosexual/cisgender personnel who had a personal or professional relationship with an LGBTQ military service person (someone to whom an LGBTQ service member disclosed their sexual or gender identity).
