A MESSAGE FROM KEVIN GREANEY
CHAIR, BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Dear Friends & Families of The Epiphany School Foundation,

Hope you're having a wonderful start to 2016!  The Epiphany School Foundation and the Board of Trustees have been busy over the last few months driving towards a strong 2nd half of the school year including the preparation of two key events and focus on the Annual Fund.

Reminiscing the 1st half of the school year, we had a successful Walk in October as well as a very celebratory and well-supported Hall of Fame Event in November.  We ended 2015 with our annual Christmas Party and car raffle for all Epiphany families.  I'd like to acknowledge everyone for their support selling car raffle tickets--including a big push by the Board of Trustees this year.  We ended up selling over 900 tickets-a new record for the Foundation!  Congratulations to Joe and Jane Castle on being the lucky family to have their name drawn.  It is always exciting to have an Epiphany family win.

We are all looking forward to The Spring Auction coming up on March 16th at its new location, Tribeca Rooftop.  Partnering with The Epiphany School, this year's Auction appeal aims to raise over $125,000 towards a new, healthier lunch program for our students, Wellness in the Schools (WITS), starting in September.  Special thanks to our co-chairs, Jessica Annunziata and Felicia Tanoff, for all of their hard work on this event.  You can read more on the auction and this year's appeal further in the newsletter.

Catherine Coluzzi has again been doing an amazing job in chairing The Annual Fund.  If you have not heard from her, you will soon.  Supporting the Annual Fund is an investment in your children and improving the school.   With Catherine's leadership, we're looking to achieve 100% participation from all current parents.  Last year we surpassed $200,000 and we are aiming towards $220,000 this year.

The Golf Outing, with John Sowarby and Anthony Rapillo at the helm this year, will take place on May 16th at Wykagyl Country Club.  All are welcome, so it's never too late to reserve your foursome.

Thank you all for your continued support and please keep up the good work.

All the best,
Kevin G. Greaney KM
Chair, Board of Trustees

SUPPORT US
CALLING FOR PARENT PARTICIPATION FOR THE ANNUAL FUND

T he Annual Fund is the key component of the overall fundraising and success of The Foundation, and is a top priority.  The Annual Fund provides funding for many programs that benefit our children--over and above the cost of tuition.  This year, that subsidy amounts to over $1,500 per student.  This school year's Annual Fund runs from July 1, 2015 until June 30, 2016, with the goal of 100% participation by our Epiphany families.

During the 2014-2015 school year, we had roughly 43% parent participation with the average gift totaling approximately $950.

Parent support is essential!  Participation is a reflection of the strength of The Epiphany School community, and parent Annual Fund donations help increase outside donor support.

Year to date, we are 60% to our goal of $220,000 raising $133,000 at a 24% parent participation rate.  If we have full participation in the Annual Fund, we know we can reach our goals.

Donations can be made here  online.  Please make sure to click "Annual Fund" in the drop down window! Thank you so much in advance for your gift!

A MERRY EVENING AT THE
ANNUAL FOUNDATION CHRISTMAS PARTY
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CASTLE FAMILY

On a beautiful evening last December, The Foundation held yet another memorable Christmas Party to say thank you to members of the Epiphany community for their ongoing support.

It was a record breaking evening with an amazing 908 tickets sold towards the Mercedes-Benz raffle fund raiser.  Congrats to our lucky winners of the Mercedes-Benz, Jane and Joe Castle!  Jane and Joe have two children who attend The Epiphany School:  Joseph, a 4th grader, and Emily, a 2nd grader.  It's now back-to-back years that an Epiphany School family has won!

Thank you to all who purchased and sold tickets this year.  All of your hard work led to an amazing success.  A special thank you to The Epiphany Board of Trustees who made a huge effort in selling tickets this year with their own spirited competition to sell the most tickets!

Our gratitude goes to those who made all of this possible:
  • Rich Hesse of Mercedes-Benz of Nanuet for the raffle prizing
  • Father Titus for giving us the opportunity to sell tickets outside of Church
  • Allison Hemming and Kim Ettin for coordinating the evening's creative décor, set up and entertainment
  • Richard Capuano for providing the wonderful entertainment
Thank you!

WHY WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT WITS
Q & A FROM JESSICA ANNUNZIATA & FELICIA TANOFF
2016 SPRING AUCTION CHAIRS

Since we announced our WITS Special Auction Appeal in January, we have received many thoughtful questions and feedback.  We hope that our Q & A below will provide you with helpful information and give you a preview of our exciting, healthier lunch program that will begin starting Fall 2016.  Please feel free to reach out to us anytime with any additional questions.  Thank you!  We appreciate your support and we look forward to enjoying the auction with you on March 16th!

Q:  What happens in a WITS lab?
A:  The WITS Labs are a series of seasonal cooking classes, during which children prepare and taste seasonal and local farm-fresh recipes.  Taught by a WITS Chef, the WITS Labs introduce the importance of eating locally and seasonally, the fundamentals of cooking, and the essentials of nutrition.  In the Labs, the WITS Chef leads a short nutritional lesson focusing on the featured ingredient.  The students then learn and complete a basic recipe using the ingredient.  Recipes are given to children to take home and at least one of the recipes is prepared in the cafeteria.

Q:  How much money do we need to raise to implement WITS?
A:  In order to cover the salary of a WITS chef at both 22nd Street and 28th Street campuses and purchase necessary kitchen equipment, we hope to raise at least $125,000.  We look forward to sharing more information with you in the coming weeks and during our brief presentation before our Special Appeal.

Q: Will we be using a different food service with this program?
A: No. The ingredients used in our menu will still come from SchoolFood, our current supplier.  However, with the partnership of the WITS program, we will be introducing an alternative SchoolFood menu.  This menu includes food options that are healthier, less processed, plant-based alternatives.  Don't worry - Pizza Fridays won't go away!

Q: What happens after the WITS Program is implemented? How can we ensure its success?
A: Beginning in the fall, Epiphany will implement its first Wellness Committee.  This committee will share health and wellness news with our community and find the best ways to encourage healthy eating.  If you are interested in joining the committee, please contact The Foundation Office.
