EaglePRIDE
I want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to Ari Castaneda. Ari was not happy seeing the accumulation of trash behind the wall outside the cafeteria.  Instead of complaining or looking the other way (like FAR TOO MANY STUDENTS HAVE!) she demonstrated leadership and initiative and cleaned up the trash herself. She filled 2 trash bags. Thank you for taking PRIDE in your school Ari!  I hope other students follow your example!

The PSAT/NMSQT-a key step in your child's journey to college
On Wednesday, October 14, all 9th-11th grade students will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT, a test of the skills and knowledge essential for college and career that students are learning in class.
We encourage your child to take advantage of the many benefits the PSAT/NMSQT offers:
  • Connects students to colleges and universities across the country, and to scholarship organizations.
  • Prepares students for the new SAT® and college and fuels practice recommendations on Khan Academy®.
  • Matches students with AP® courses that make the most of their academic strengths. AP classes can provide an edge in the admission process, and an opportunity to earn college credit.
It's a wonderful chance for our 9th-11th grade students to be recognized and rewarded for the skills and knowledge they've earned.

ATHLETICS
CROSS COUNTRY
Furman/Gene Mullin XC Invitational Recap

GIRLS VARSITY TEAM
It was apparent early this was a two-team battle as the Lady Eagles of Milton (1st-103 pts) bested fellow Georgia 6A foe the Harrison Lady Hoyas (2nd-141 pts) by putting their top-3 finishers in the top-12 overall spots.  Carolina Day School (NC) (3rd-238 pts) trailed.  After Harrison placed their top-3 finishers in the top-20 the team race came down to each team's 4th & 5th finisher and Milton placed their 4th-6th runners in front of Harrison's 4th runner to defend their title. 35 schools scored.

BOYS VARSITY TEAM
The overwhelming favorite Milton (1st-62 pts), showed their upfront strength & depth by placing three finishers in the top-10 and easily besting 40 scoring schools.  Forsyth Central (GA) (2nd-135 pts) & Roswell (GA) (3rd-164 pts) were the remaining podium teams.  The Eagles of Milton followed their top finishers with two more finishers in the top-30 to place four runners in front of Forsyth Central's 1st finisher.

BOYS VARSITY INDIVIDUAL
With a strong group of individuals entered that had run under 16-minutes, a close race was anticipated and with the wet/soggy conditions on the course that is what transpired. A large group of seven remained together for close to 3000 meters when a group of three broke away.  Eventually pulling away on the final uphill section about 600 meters from the finish, North Oconee's (GA) Thomas Moore (1st-16:28) survived a big spill right near the finish and win comfortably. Milton's Jack Bluth (2nd-16:40) was close to Moore the entire way and was the runner-up. Moving steadily through the top-group, sophomore Sam Bowers (3rd-1 6:41) followed up his same finishing position from the Wingfoot meet 2 weeks ago to almost catch Bluth right at the line! There were 317 finishers.

GIRLS JV RACE
The Lady Eagles of Milton (1st-15 pts) pulled off a perfect score for the 2nd time this season and the 5th time in school history to best 14 scoring schools.  Roswell (2nd-77 pts) & TC Roberson (SC) (3rd-83 pts) followed.  Freshman Faith Wagner (1st-22:07) moved past her teammates throughout the race to get the win and help put 10 Lady Eagle finishers in the top-11! 201 finishers were recorded.

BOYS JV RACE
With 7 finishers in the top-11, Milton (1st-28 pts) defended its title over 20 scoring schools.  Wando (SC) (2nd-49 pts) & Grayson (3rd-89 pts) trailed.  Basically leading wire-to-wire, Milton junior Valera Stettner (1st-18:12) won his 2nd race of the season holding off Noah Spencer of Wando (2nd-18:22).  Milton had only a 53-second spread among their top-7 finishers as 279 runners completed the race.

COMPETITIVE CHEER
Congratulations to the Competition Cheerleading Teams on their wins this weekend. They competing in Columbus where the All-Girl Team won their division. The Coed Team also won their division and was awarded the Grand Champions Award for the entire competition.

PERFORMING ARTS
MARCHING BAND MEDALS AT BOA EVENT!
Last weekend the marching band had their best performance of the year at the 2015 Bands of America Regional Competition held at McEachern High School.  At an event that featured some of the very best competitive marching bands in the southeast, the band received bronze medal honors, ending in 3rd place for the entire day of performances.  This is
a historic accomplishment for the band as it is marks the first time the MHS marching band has received medalist honors at a BOA event in the school's history, and only the second time being selected as a top ten finalist.
