"I, Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 2016 as Irish-American Heritage Month. I call upon all Americans to observe this month with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs."

Dear CIM Supporters,

Welcome to the St. Patrick's Day Season!  Yes, for those of us involved in the Irish community we know that St. Paddy's Day is not simply a one day celebration.  In fact, events surrounding this holiday seem to last all month.  We hope to see you at many of the local celebrations in the Twin Cities.

The Center for Irish Music is excited to once again be involved with both the IMDA's St. Patrick's Day and Day of Irish Dance Celebrations on March 17th and 20th.  Please support our ensembles and instructors by cheering them on while they perform on both days.  We are also in need of volunteers for our information booth.  You can find more information in the article here.

There is no way to adequately express our thanks to all of the people who made this year's Eigse CIM, A Gaela Event a success.  On February 20th, you overwhelmingly showed your support for traditional Irish music in the Twin Cities!  We are so fortunate to have such devoted and generous instructors, staff, students, board members, volunteers, donors, and community members.  Thank you for all the ways that you have contributed to the success of our music school.

As many of you know, our executive director, Norah Rendell, and husband Brian Miller, are expecting a baby mid-March.  Norah will be on maternity leave from approximately St. Patrick's Day through mid to late May.  During this time she has made arrangements for subs for all of her classes and lessons.  For administrative questions, please direct them to either Erika, Lorin, or Emily in the office. Congratulations to the Rendell / Miller family - we'll update you on new baby news soon!

Meet CIM's Newest Instructor
Tom Klein - Uilleann Pipes

Tom spent his childhood studying western classical music, but after hearing the first few notes from Finbar Furey's Irish Pipe Music, he gave himself over to Irish music. In addition to studying the uilleann piping of long-passed masters, he has been instructed by many of today's greatest pipers. Once referred to as "The Tim Burton of the pipes" for his unusual and quirky settings of traditional tunes, Tom revels in expanding upon the already highly-idiosyncratic sound of the instrument. He currently performs solo, as well as with Dan "Daddy Squeeze" Newton in the pipes-and-accordion duo The Bellows Brothers.

Community members, staff, students, instructors, and supporters all gathered on February 20 to raise funds for CIM.

In addition to the evening's catered dinner by Cara Irish Pubs, a silent auction, and a concert by our amazingly talented instructors, we also awarded this year's Fitz Memorial Scholarship to three  CIM students who have shown exceptional dedication and talent to their music.  We are delighted to share with you this year's Fitz Memorial Scholarship Awardees:

JoAnn Vano (button accordion)
Joe DeGeorgeo (fiddle)
Arjun Ramachandran (fiddle)

CONGRATULATIONS!
