PLAYLAB heats up the Maine winter with new works by local playwrights
The purpose of PLAYLAB is to give Maine playwrights who are members an outlet to see and hear their work performed by actors whose job it is to "bring the spirit of the play to life." Then the member playwright can solicit constructive feedback from other members through a moderated (and always lively) discussion.
It always amazes us what happens in a typical PLAYLAB: actors throw themselves into their roles (after just one rehearsal) and the play comes to life in three dimensions. The playwright then absorbs the incisive feedback from the other members, asks questions, and a stimulating dialogue ensues. Best of all, the playwright goes home to rework the play based on what he or she found useful from the performance and discussion.
It is said plays are not written, only rewritten; PLAYLAB helps the rewriting happen so the play can go on to a successful future.
