Last week students and administrators from Energy met with our advisory board for a discussion on how to strengthen our industry partnerships. Energy students led table discussions with industry professionals brainstorming program ideas, experiences, and opportunities that will make them ideal candidates for future employment!

Our student spotlight features sophomore Hadiya Culbreath. Hadiya is an incredibly hardworking student at Energy. This year she was accepted into HISD's Emerge program and also participates in a number of student organizations on campus including Ladies of Energy. Hadiya was recently accepted into the Harvard Pre-Collegiate Program for Summer 2016. This program will take her to Harvard University for two weeks this summer to participate in a challenging and rewarding learning experience. This program will give her an introduction to college life as she attends challenging classes, lives on campus, and also enjoys fun excursions and activities. Hadiya received a $1,000 scholarship to attend. It has been a long time goal and dream of Hadiya's to attend Harvard University. To make this a reality Hadiya researched college programs and jumped at this summer program. We could not be more proud of Hadiya for taking initiative and working hard to make her dreams come true. Keep up the great work Hadiya!

Last Friday, Latino Magazine hosted the 2016 Ensena Awards honoring Energy teacher leader Raul Alanis for his work as an educator. The event highlights the work of many Latino experts in STEM related fields. Identifying education as the key component to increasing the amount of minority students in STEM fields, the organization honors two outstanding teachers each year for their work with students particularly in STEM courses. Mr. Alanis has been at Energy since the school opened in 2013 and has made many important contributions to Energy. We are very proud of the work Mr. Alanis does in his classroom with students each and every day. Congratulations Mr. Alanis on a well-deserved award! |
