HIV-Positive Organ Transplants Approved
Class of '96 Alumnus at Helm
Johns Hopkins Medicine doctors have been given the okay to become the first hospital in the country to perform HIV-positive to HIV-positive organ transplants.
"This is an unbelievably exciting day for our hospital and our team, but more importantly for patients living with HIV and end-stage organ disease," said Dorry Segev, M.D., Ph.D. (Med '96), associate professor of surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. "For these individuals, this means a new chance at life."

'Hopkins Lifer' Awarded Physician of the Year
Class of '81 Alumnus Recognized as Ultimate Teacher and Mentor
Steven Schulman, M.D. (Med '81) is a self-proclaimed "Hopkins lifer." He started medical school in 1977, completed his residency in cardiology in 1984 and fellowship in cardiology in 1988 at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. A role model to his peers, Schulman is one of seven Physician of the Year recipients in the inaugural year of the
Johns Hopkins Medicine Clinical Awards for Physicians and Care Teams program. Winners for 2015 were also announced in the categories of Clinical Collaboration and Teamwork, Innovations in Clinical Care, Best Consulting Physician, Excellence in Service and Professionalism, and the Armstrong Award for Excellence in Quality and Safety.

SOM Students Win AMWA Branch Award
2016 Award Marks Second Win for the Hopkins Student Chapter
The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) has selected The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as this year's recipient of the Heller Outstanding Branch Award. This award recognizes the AMWA student branch that has made exceptional strides in their activities for the year, including recruitment efforts, service projects, and professional activities. Through local and community contributions, the Hopkins branch most exemplified AMWA's mission to advance women in medicine and improve women's health. This is the second time the Hopkins chapter has won the award; the last time was in 2014. The AMWA will award $250 to further branch efforts and programming.

Student National Medical Association (SNMA)'s Annual Medical Education Conference, where they will host a networking reception on
Friday, March 25, 6:30-9 p.m. at the JW Marriott Austin in Texas. The SNMA is the oldest and largest organization focused on the needs of underrepresented minority medical students. This networking reception is an opportunity to showcase Hopkins medicine to prospective medical students and current medical students who are interested in our residency programs. The Johns Hopkins Kelly Gynecologic Oncology Service Below the Belt - Stride and Thrive 5K and 1-Mile Run/Walk will kick off Sunday, May 15, 8:30-11:30 a.m. at Goucher College. The goal of the Below the Belt Stride and Thrive 5K race is to bring together cancer survivors, their family members and friends, women's health specialists, and the local community to encourage fitness, raise gynecologic cancer awareness, and educate women to seek out expert care earlier. All race proceeds will go towards funding innovative gynecologic cancer research and for local women's cancer survivorship programming at Johns Hopkins. Biennial Meeting and Reunion Weekend 2017
