Alumna Awarded Most Influential Lawyer

Congratulations to Joan Swartz, '80 who was awarded the Most Influential Lawyer Award at the Missouri Lawyers Awards 2016. Joan was featured in the Missouri Lawyers Weekly at the end of January. In the article, she recalls knowing at an
Joan Swartz
early age that she had a calling to "fix problems."

This calling stayed with her even after graduating from Saint Louis University for her undergraduate and law degree. After working as an associate for Lashly and Baer, Joan established her own law firm 15 years ago. She has served as president of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and is a founding member of Motion for Kids, a program that throws a day-long holiday party for kids who have parents who are impacted by the criminal justice system.

Congratulations, Joan! We are so proud of you!!

Alumnae Spotlight

Lisa Svetanics Mitchell, '87

What do you do now?

I am the Communications Specialist at Rosati-Kain High School

What has been your most proud accomplishment thus far?

Acquiring a Christmas card from John Mabry, Cardinals Hitting Coach.

What are some hobbies you have?

Reading, sleeping, and going to the lake.

W hat is your favorite R-K memory?

October Day when we could release balloons instead of bubbles.

How did your experience at R-K shape you into who you are today?

R-K gave me confidence to use my voice and stand up when something is not right.

What advice would you give to an R-K student or senior?

Never perm your hair! It rarely looks the way you envisioned it would.

Also, travel in your early twenties; it will be harder to do that as you get older.

What extracurricular programs did you participate in as an R-K student?

My biggest regret is that I was too afraid to get involved and try new things.  Join a club, try out for a team - it's a great way to form long-lasting friendships and learn about yourself.

Who was one of the most influential faculty members you had, and why?

Sr. Sheila. She stressed the importance of the written word.
