Finally a winner? Marko Baloh (of Slovenia) will be among the very few with a shot at winning the 2016 Race Across America. Though he'll race in the under-50 age category at 48, he'll be one of the most experienced and most accomplished racers; the Slovenian has been on a winning two-rider team, took second in the 2006 Enduro category and was third in 2009 and 2011, and in 2014 won the 848-mile Race Across the West.

I feel the pain of managers, coaches, TV and radio sports talkers, baseball beat writers and erudite columnists that have to manufacture something newsworthy every day until the real baseball season begins.

Well, tonight I lost track watching Steph Curry. In a record-setting and historic display of jaw-dropping, long-distance shooting, the reigning MVP summoned a combination of skill, guts, heart and the inexorable will to win, the likes of which I have never seen, in any sport, at any level -- ever.
In the last four games, his numbers are: 175 points, 62-102 from the field, 33-54 from beyond the arc, 18-20 from the line. All victories, all on the road and he saved the best for last. And it's not just his shooting; he may also be the best ball-handler and passer in the NBA.
In what will go down as the team's signature win of the regular season, and one of the signature games of his career, Steph Curry's dramatic 32-footer with 0.6 second left in overtime dealt the Oklahoma City Thunder a devastating defeat. They lost despite out-rebounding the Warriors 62-32, and probably had the game won three times. This loss will probably feel worse when they wake up. Ouch...
There was so much drama in this game, so many subplots, it's hard to know where to begin. Let's start with the ridiculous jealous chatter coming from some of the above NBA personalities and many others around the league.
On second thought, let's just dismiss all of it outright, because it's nonsense. But it does get heads talking and when a team is 53-5 there are always people who want to knock them down a peg or two. Ignore them...
Let's move on to the game itself. The Thunder were the one team on this road trip that would present a problem for the Warriors after that uncharacteristic blowout they suffered at the hands of the Portland Trailblazers.
The cliché was true this time -- the ugly loss that opened the road trip only served to make them angry and sharpened their already laser-like focus to the tune of five straight road wins.
Not surprisingly, OKC came out with energy and played excellent defense, something they rarely do, as we were so often reminded by the ABC broadcast team of Mark Jackson and Jeff van Gundy. And the Warriors were not playing well. The home team, led as always by their dynamic duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, were also getting a fine effort from forgotten man Serge Ibaka and took a 57-46 lead into halftime. That's when things got weird.
Sideline reporter Lisa Salters felt compelled to share some it's-none-of-your-damn-business information -- twice -- with viewers. Apparently while eavesdropping on the Warriors locker room during halftime she overheard a high-volume profanity-laced rant by an exercised and angry Draymond Green (who else?) in which he allegedly said, "I am not a robot, I know I can play. You have me messed up right now. If you don't want me to shoot, I won't shoot the rest of the game."
So what? Is that all you got? Hasn't ABC ever heard the phrase, "sanctity of the locker room?" Are they so desperate to dig up something negative on this team that they have to resort to this? This is responsible journalism? Pathetic. Do they really believe that a locker room tirade after a poor half in a big game can derail the team with the best chemistry in the NBA?
But guess what, you pompous media blowhards. If anything, Draymond going off got them
more focused. The Thunder had their chances to win this game but the Warriors, led by their trio of all-stars, would not let that happen. This team refuses to lose.
With barely a minute gone in the third period, Steph got tangled up with Westbrook and found himself seated on the baseline, in obvious discomfort, screaming "FOUL" to his teammates so they would stop the game. Six million people in the Bay Area held their collective breath as he limped off the court, fearing the worst. Would he come back?
Fortunately Steph returned with five minutes left in the quarter, a bit gimpy but ready to play. And whatever Draymond said to the team at halftime worked. Although he has not been playing his best lately and was struggling from the field yet again -- to the tune of an 0-8 night -- his overall stat line was remarkable: 14 rebounds, 14 assists, 6 steals and 4 blocks and several key plays down the stretch. Draymond played like a man possessed in the second half. "The best no-field goal game I've seen since Dennis Rodman," said coach Steve Kerr afterward.
Let the man rant, I say...
Once again, no matter how Draymond plays during the course of the game, in crunch time he will make a big play. His desperate save following Klay Thompson's deflection of an ill-advised Durant pass with six seconds left in regulation allowed cagey veteran Andre Iguodala to bait Durant into the foul that sent him to the line, where the often shaky free throw shooter calmly tied the game, sending it into overtime. In addition to that steal, Thompson made several clutch shots down the stretch en route to a quietly brilliant 32-point game.
Meanwhile Curry somehow managed to shake off the injury. He started racking up points in bunches, his threes coming fast and furious. It simply made no difference who -- or how many -- were covering him. His two 26-footers kept the W's close down the stretch and when it came to overtime he showed why he exists in another dimension. On a drive to the bucket, he forced one last foul from Durant, taking Durant off the floor.
OKC was hanging onto a four-point lead with 1:32 left when Draymond grabbed the board off of a Steph miss and found Klay for a corner three. On the next possession Green found Thompson again for an and-one layup, tying the game at 118.
The stage was set for Steph Curry.
After Westbrook's off-balance 14-footer went awry, Igoudala secured the rebound with 6 seconds left and fired the outlet pass to Steph. The Warriors had one timeout left and most of us figured they'd use it to advance the ball and set up the last shot.
But no, not with Steph Curry on your side, for this year he has raised his game to a whole new level. He has added even more range to his already ridiculous outside shooting and his handle is better and his passes are more accurate and sharper. But there is one immeasurable, even more compelling attribute which appears to be the difference. He has become Mr. Clutch. As he crossed the half court line you could see what he was doing. He is utterly fearless.
No timeout for me --
it's winning time!
As the ball left his hand I was transported back to the famous time-stop episodes from the original Twilight Zone series of the '60s. Everything froze except the basketball. And as the 32-footer swished through the net, it took a second for time to restart. I knew what I was seeing was real but it somehow did not feel real.
To a stunned Oklahoma City team, who played well but not well enough, joining the long list of victims who have futilely tried and failed to shut down the best team in the league, the one that features arguably the greatest shooter ever...
To the naysayers who doubt the unity of the Warriors, who confuse fun, emotion and an unbridled competitive passion for winning with selfish, narcissistic dissension, I'd like you to meet the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Houston Rockets...
Finally, to those who cannot bring themselves to show some grace and acknowledge that Steph Curry is a revelation, a 6'3" baby-faced once-in-a-lifetime transcendental talent who thrives on the spotlight, well, guess what...?

The Basketball Tournament Announces Record $2 Million Prize and Sites

The Basketball Tournament (TBT).
The Tournament announced they have doubled the winner-take-all prize money to $2 million for 2016, with the winning team's fans sharing 10% of the prize: $200,000.
