DEGreenwaysCorridor Management Plan for the Delaware Bayshore Byway Published

According to a Delaware Greenways e-News, "Delaware Greenways has announced that the Corridor Management Plan for Delaware's Bayshore Byway has been approved by Delaware's Secretary of Transportation, Shailen Bhatt. The Corridor Management Plan, covering Route 9 from the City of New Castle to State Route 1 at the Dover Air Base, is the collaborative product of Delaware Greenways, the Delaware Department of Transportation, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), and a 45-member Planning Advisory Committee made up of representatives of communities along the route of the Byway, Bombay Hook Natural Wildlife Refuge, environmental groups, and citizens. The 200-page document discusses how the natural features and wildlife relate to the manmade environment, and tells the story of how everyday citizens and leaders have united to protect this natural treasure from industrial development." DNRECDNREC's Announces the Availability of Coastal Conservation Management Grant Funds 

According to a DNREC release, "Delaware Coastal Management Program (DCMP) has announced the availability of grant funding to support projects and activities that improve local and regional capacity to conserve, manage, and promote the incorporation of coastal management issues into local planning and implementation activities throughout Delaware.

  

A workshop will be held on Saturday, January 11 at the St. Jones Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop will review grant requirements and how to prepare a competitive grant application for submission.  The workshop is free and is not mandatory, but attendees must pre-register by Tuesday, January 7." UBPUrban Bike Project Moves to 1500 N. Walnut Street 

According to a release from the Urban Bike Project, "Urban Bike Project has entered into an agreement with the City of Wilmington to occupy space at 1500 N. Walnut Street in Wilmington. The property is on the National Register of Historic Places and once served as the City's horse stables. The Urban Bike Project provides educational programs and mechanical assistance to City of Wilmington residents and youth in need. The five-year-old Urban Bike Project was previously housed at 1908 N. SchoolkidsStudy Reveals More K-8 Children are Walking to School
According to a December 2nd National Center for Safe Routes to School release, "New research from the National Center for Safe Routes to School shows that more K-8 students are walking to and from school across the country.  The percentage of K-8 children who walked to school in the morning increased from 12.4 percent to 15.7 percent (representing a 27 percent increase). Similarly, the percentage of K-8 children who walked from school in the afternoon increased from 15.8 percent to 19.7 percent (representing a 24 percent increase). Another significant finding of this research was that the percentage of parents who reported that their child's school supporting walking and bicycling for the school commute rose from 24.9 percent to 33 percent." TextingTeens Text less then Adults While Driving    

According to a AAA release, "High school-aged teens report using their phones or texting while driving substantially less often than adults do, according to new research by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.  While the public often cites teens as being the most common offenders, a recent survey found that adult drivers ages 25-39 were the most likely to admit engaging in these risky behaviors behind the wheel."  For more information, please visit http://newsroom.aaa.com/2013/12/teens-report-texting-or-using-phone-while-driving-significantly-less-often-than-adults.

APBPAPBP Bikeshare Transit Webinar Series

According to an Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP) announcement, "Join APBP for a 3-part webinar series that explores bike sharing as bicycle transit in the larger context of transportation planning. Each session features case studies and perspectives from professionals in cities with a wide range of experience in bicycle sharing operations and business models."  The webinars will be held on January 8, February 5, and March 5 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. To register, please visit www.apbp.org/event/biketransit_series.
