Volunteers Needed
Each Boston Marathon weekend, we work to roll out the red carpet and ensure that our
Team With A Vision
runners, sighted guides, and families have an incredible experience, and this year, YOU
could be a part of it!
The events and activities of the weekend are made possible through the work of dedicated volunteers. There are many different opportunities available for you to assist our team, including:
- Purchasing and creating homestay food baskets for the runners
- Driving runners and their families to or from Logan Airport
- Accompanying runners and their families on trips around Boston - museums, landmarks, etc.
- Making food, purchasing and arranging flowers, or helping with service at the Saturday Team dinner
- Driving guides to and from the transition point on race day
If you would like to help in any way, contact Team Coordinator Andrea Croak by
email
or by phone at 617.732.0279.

Sign up for the Blindfold Challenge
Registration is now open for the fifth annual Blindfold Challenge at the B.A.A. 5K on Saturday, April 16th!
The Blindfold Challenge is a unique opportunity to run a 5K blindfolded with the help of a guide. Runners take the challenge to demonstrate their solidarity with the visually impaired community and to raise
awareness of the capabilities of people who are blind or visually impaired when given the proper tools.
Runners receive training to prepare for the race and commit to raising funds for vision rehabilitation, technology, and education services.

On May 4th, MABVI is hosting a forward-thinking, solutions-driven summit to address gaps in services for individuals who are visually impaired.
Panelists will include thought leaders in technology, healthcare, and business discussing how to address the needs of the growing population of older adults with vision loss as well as continue to serve the younger generation of people who are blind.
If we are not prepared to meet the need, we will have a service delivery crisis with severe economic and quality-of-life repercussions.

NEW SERVICE:
Adjustment to Vision Loss Counseling
Losing one's sight can initially feel devastating and overwhelming, and it can lead to depression or isolation. At MABVI we know it doesn't have to be this way, and that is why have launched a new service:
Adjustment to Vision Loss Counseling.
Our Adjustment Counselors can help an individual understand and work through the process of grief associated with vision loss and develop strategies for coping with the physiological and emotional challenges it presents.

Volunteering with MABVI:
"A Wynne-Win Situation"
"From that very first moment that we were able to meet in person, I feel like I get as much out of it as Wynne does. We like to say it's a total Wynne-Win situation!"
Teresa and Wynne were matched through our one-on-one
Volunteer Program
. In this video from our YouTube page, we sat down with them to learn more about their close friendship, how the Volunteer Program has benefit them both, and why having a volunteer can actually increase your independence.
