Letter from the President

I hope everyone is having a wonderful and relaxing summer so far! SWC has had a busy June already, with Community Outreach involvement in several wonderful efforts (which you can read about below). We also were recently honored by the Southlake Chamber of Commerce as a nominee for Civic Group of the Year. While this year's award went to SPARK, we were thrilled to have been recognized once again by the Chamber for our work in the community. It's the commitment and effort of all of YOU, our members, that make this recognition possible! Thank you to each and every one of you for the contributions you make to our club.

As for me, I'm busy meeting with the new board and making plans for what I hope will be another exciting and fulfilling year for SWC! Your new VP of Programs, Ann Swindell, has some awesome ideas in the works for our luncheons. Your new VP of Social, Kim Sexton, just gave us a great evening out at Del Frisco's Grille, and she has more plans...so stay tuned! We will have updates on everything from programs to socials to membership next month.

One of my most important objectives for this season, as we celebrate our 30th year, is to reflect on where we want SWC to head in the future. How do you envision our organization 30 years from now? I'd like to ask you all to take some time and remember why you joined SWC, what you hope to contribute, and how you can best help us move the organization forward in the right direction.

To that end, we'll be sending you a short but important Membership Survey in the next week. Be on the lookout, and please help us by providing your valuable feedback.

I'm heading off to California with my family for half of July, and I'm sure most of you have some vacation plans as well. I wish you all safe and pleasant travels, and I'm looking forward to seeing you in August & serving as your President! Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or comments. You can email, call, or text me at any time at 817-372-2501. Thank you!

School Supply - Jennifer Barry
School is out, but it's never too early to order your supplies for September, especially when you can now order everything online!

Southlake Women's Club will no longer have the one-day sale, but instead will have a " School Supply Pick-up Day" on Tuesday, August 18 th. Supplies MUST be picked up on this day at the Carroll High School cafeteria, or they will be returned to the supply company.  All orders MUST BE received by Friday August 7th.

To order, go to the The Southlake Women's Club website, and click on the link School Supply Sale.  This sale is a fundraiser for CISD and all proceeds will be distributed to the eight participating schools.

Make sure to read the flyer on the website for more information and details!

Social - Kim Sexton
Thanks to everyone who attended the Del Frisco's social on June 17th! We had a great mix of members and guests, as well as some new faces that we hope to see when the club starts up again in September!

Be sure and keep an eye out for a TBD date in August for our next social at the Timarron Country Club!
Community Outreach
The Community Outreach Team of Southlake Women's Club was asked by the Community Enrichment Center if we could help a single mom and her two kids. They just moved from the shelter into an apartment, and all they had were some mattresses. Look at the before and after of how the team transformed the apartment!

Living room before.

Kids room before.

The living room was transformed into a family friendly spot.

The girls room is princess perfect!

Mom now has a place for herself!

The 12 year old girl is diabetic, the 9 year old boy was just diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, and we were told they were completely blown away at the transformation of their apartment!

Thank you to team members Paula Marshall, Jo Jameson, Carmen Hubenak Evans , Gina Kahn Head, Pamela Raby, Meg Lessard, Josie Spence, Meredith Marshall, Christopher Raby and Ute Busse!

  ..........

Last week, SWC helped once again to prepare lunches for

GRACE's Feed Our Kids program, which provides lunches to area children in need. During the school year, these children typically have access to free/reduced meals. But during the summer, when classes aren't in session, they often don't have food to eat all day. A number of community organizations step in to help. Here's a photo of the SWC members (and family!) who helped assemble, pack, and distribute healthy lunches for 80 children last Thursday and Friday.

Thank you to Ann Bridgman for organizing the SWC crew, to all who helped, and to GRACE for making this possible!

Because of a generous donation from the Southlake Women's Club in honor of Cole Malone, his Eagle Scout project was successfully completed:

It is with a gracious heart and an abundance of gratitude that we thank you for your generous donation towards the Cole Malone Eagle Scout Sensory Trail project.

   Christ's Haven

Celena Salinas, Director of Haven's Horses and Terri Schrobilgen, our 2014-2015 President.

The mission of Haven's Horses is to provide therapeutic and hippo-therapy to special needs and disabled children to carry themselves with confidence and strengthen their physical goals for achieving a better quality of life. Cole's project of providing our kids with a state of the art sensory trail will provide our children the best form of stimulate to help us achieve our riders life goals.

Programs
We ended the year in style at the Piazza in Colleyville, with our Kentucky Derby themed lunch!

The lunch featured many of the SWC Past Presidents, helping the club celebrate 30 years of fun and friendship!

The event ended with the announcement of our 2015 Member of the Year, Terri Schrobilgen!  Congratulations! Terri will be honored this September at the Shining Star Luncheon in Hurst.
Enjoy your summer and we look forward to seeing you in August!

Sincerely,

Meg Lessard
