Another GRAMMY win for
Jazz House Kids Artistic Chair,
You may have heard the NEWS, but in case you haven't, Jazz House Kids Artistic Director and bass virtuoso
Christian McBride
won his 5th
Grammy Award
last night, this time under the
Best Improvised Jazz Solo category
, for his impeccable execution and soulfulness on "Cherokee," from his 2015 album
Live at the Village Vanguard
.
THIS IS A BIG DEAL ---> Christian is the first bassist ever to win at this category, joining giants like Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Chick Corea and Ella Fitzgerald. Not only does he continue to make history everyday through his music, but he
provides an invaluable service to jazz education and excellence. Congrats!

It was a challenging and rewarding weekend at the
Manhattan School of Music in NYC
, as two of our Jazz House ensembles, both directed by
Julius Tolentino
, faced talented competitors at the
8th Annual Charles Mingus High School Competition & Festival
. This is the fifth year in a row that Jazz House Kids made it to the finals.
We're thrilled to announce that the Jazz House
Organ Messengers
won
1st place in the Specialized Combo category
, and took home the
Spirit Award
! Organist and pianist

and pianist
Esteban Castro
were all given
Outstanding Soloist Awards
.
Meanwhile, the Jazz House Big Band saxophones won the Specialized Outstanding Section Award. Congrats to our amazing students and Julius for their amazing work and hard-earned recognition!!! And props to our fellow participants, including the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra. Special thanks to Sue Mingus and The Charles Mingus Institute, and Justin DiCioccio from the Manhattan School of Music.

PLUS - JAZZ HOUSE STUDENT NATHAN FARRELL HEADS OUT TO GRAMMY CAMP - JAZZ SESSION IN L.A.
Jazz House Kids is honored to have a student from our organization participate in the
Grammy Camp - Jazz Session
for the fifth consecutive year.
Nathan Farrell
joined a group of 32 of the best young jazz musicians in the country for an intensive recording and performance tour in Los Angeles, including playing at the GRAMMY Awards after-party! Nathan was selected from a pool of top high school
talent.
Jazz House Kids has consistently been represented by its top students in this elite Grammy Band, with 17 spots since 2012!
