Bishop Jamison J. Hardy made a surprise visit to Ascension of Christ, Beverly Hills, MI on Wednesday, February 18, 2016 for the evening Lenten service. The Rev. Daniel Grams preached and was pleased to see Bishop Hardy in attendance. One of the members of Ascension of Christ, Ken Broderdorf, is a friend and former classmate of Bishop Hardy's at Lutheran High, Westland, MI. A nice reunion took place.

well-attended Valentine's Day "Date Night." Entertainment was provided during dessert. A lovely evening for all!

Students at Grace English Lutheran Church and School in Chicago, IL, enjoyed celebrating Valentine's Day a few days early. Cards, candy and smiles filled the halls of this school!

Redeemer Lutheran School, Oakmont, PA, students enjoyed Valentine's parties and also received special candy and/or flower grams from their families. The high school students sponsored the flower/candy gram fundraiser, with proceeds to benefit a young lady in Viet Nam whom Redeemer Lutheran School sponsors. What a very sweet way to "Love your neighbor!"

Loving one another
Marcia Diener, Grace, Wyoming, MI leads the "Young at Heart" activities. The members of this group are 50 years and older.
At a recent "Young at Heart" potluck fellowship, it was advertised that there would be a "big" prize for the winner of one of the Valentine's Day games. Norma Minkus was the winner and to her surprise came a loving embrace from her pastor, The Rev. John Diener, dressed in a heart costume. She was thrilled!
The Rev. John Diener, Grace, Wyoming, MI delivered cards, love and encouragement to nursing home residents. The LWML, Women in God's Service (WINGS), made the card box. This is one way that the members of Grace show how they "love one another:"

Budding authors
Hales Corners Lutheran School, Hales Corners, WI, enjoyed "Book Buddies" this week.
The eighth graders just finished their annual "First Grade Buddy Books" project, where they were able to write a fictional story with their first grade buddy as the main character. The project ended with the eighth graders sharing their
finished books with their first grade buddies!

GRACE ENGLISH, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

When you're small it's easy to be overlooked, to not be seen. This can be true of children, places, and schools. Our school, Grace English in Chicago, is small with just around fifty students in grades PreK-3 through eight. Many of our children are small in size. Many of our families are small in finances. Many of our church members are older, and their health isn't what it used to be.
|
|
|
Although we are small in many ways, we at Grace are very mighty in what we do here. Our children love what they do at Grace. They love to learn about Jesus. They love to learn in various ways. Hands on learning takes place in all the grades; learning through technology also takes place in all the grades. We have been blessed to have iPads in grades one through eight and Chromebooks in all the grades, due to the generosity of the Chicagoland Lutheran Educational Foundation (CLEF).

The children love to share the Good News with others. One of the ways they do this is through their chapel offerings. Each year there are three major donation choices made - local, national, and international. Their favorite way to share their chapel offering is with Pastor Tom & Comfort Dog Samson, from Faith in Arlington Heights. The children also enjoy sharing the Good News by singing in church on various Sundays throughout the school year.
Our children and families work hard to keep our school going and growing as well. Each year they participate in three fundraisers to give the children opportunities they might not otherwise get. Two fundraisers go to helping with field trips and keeping our technology up, running, and current. The third fundraiser, which is mandatory and enjoyed by all, is our annual golf outing sponsored by Mr.& Mrs. Cliff Higley. The money raised helps to keep our tuition affordable for our families.

In the eyes of our LORD our children and families are doing big things every day in various ways as they continue to grow in grace and knowledge at our school.

Love and Kindness Are Never Forgotten

Thirteen years ago, on a blustery, cold, January day, Linda from Kenya came to Slippery Rock University. Like many students, she has stayed in touch with her campus church, All Saints Lutheran Church and Student Center. This January, she made it a point to fly from Texas to show her daughter - in person - the campus where she had established so many memories.
What difference does it make that students like Linda come back to visit? Does it matter to her, or to All Saints Church? Yes, it does matter!
